The MMORPG Corepunk mixes the gameplay of League of Legends and is supposed to be comparable in difficulty to WoW Classic. Originally, the closed beta was supposed to start in 2020. However, the developers have now announced that it will be postponed to 2021.
What kind of game is this? Corepunk is a “top-down MMORPG” with an open world. Visually and gameplay-wise, it resembles League of Legends. You control your character with the mouse instead of WASD and must also fire skill shots with it.
At the same time, Corepunk is a classic MMORPG that, according to the developers, is supposed to remind players of WoW Classic in terms of difficulty. In the game, you can expect:
- Dungeons and raids that are supposed to be comparable to Mythic+ (the highest difficulty level in WoW)
- Mounts that you can only obtain after reaching a certain level
- Lots of PvE content in the open world
- Arena PvP
- There are 4 gathering and 4 crafting professions, with the best crafters also able to create gear that reaches raid level. One of the professions is fishing.
We at MeinMMO have already introduced you to Corepunk in more detail as part of Find Your Next Game.
What about the beta? The beta for Corepunk was originally supposed to start in December 2020. However, as the developers have now stated, it has been postponed to “spring 2021”. There is currently no exact date available.
However, anyone who wants to participate in the beta can register on the official website at corepunk.com.
“Making an AAA MMORPG requires a lot of time”
Why is there a delay? The developers have cited several reasons why the beta is only starting in 2021:
- Due to the pandemic and working from home, there have been delays
- In October, there were several cases of illness in the team, affected by COVID-19 or seasonal flu
- The releases of WoW Shadowlands and Cyberpunk took place
The developers also emphasized in the statement that creating an MMORPG simply takes a lot of time:
Ultimately, it’s not just about these points: Regardless of the circumstances, making an AAA MMORPG simply requires a lot of effort, patience, and time.
They want to take more time to make Corepunk even better before it goes into beta.
What else did the developers say? In the course of the blog post, the progress made in the development of Corepunk was discussed.
A recent addition over the past months has been guilds:
- You can create a guild at level 10 for free
- Guilds have access to their own chat, ranks, and a guild bank
- Every guild will have a level that can be leveled up. There are group quests, but also individual tasks that each person can tackle individually.
- Every guild will have a rating that will be displayed in a leaderboard. It should be easier for small guilds with active members to rank up compared to large guilds with inactive players.
The next section discussed technical content such as engine and hosting:
- There is supposed to be close collaboration between the developers and the staff from Unity. Corepunk is being developed in this engine.
- Part of Unity is also the hosting service Multiplay, which also takes care of Apex Legends. Corepunk is also being worked on together here.

When will Corepunk be released? Overall, Corepunk is set to develop well, even though the beta is now delayed by several weeks. The release, announced for 2021, was neither confirmed nor denied in the new blog post.
After the release, Corepunk will also be expanded with new content such as housing and personal farms, as well as new classes, areas, and mounts.
