What is Galaxy AI?
What is it? Galaxy AI is Samsung’s new AI system, which you can currently only use on Galaxy devices. Samsung intends to significantly expand the capabilities and functions in the future.
Who is behind the AI? Samsung has teamed up with Google to enhance its own Galaxy AI with Google’s Gemini Pro and Imagen 2, adding additional features.
Simply put, Galaxy AI is not a single model like ChatGPT but a combination of different AI models. Depending on the task, a different system is used. However, some models require additional things, such as an internet connection.

Which devices support Galaxy AI? The following models have supported Galaxy AI since May 2024:
- Galaxy S23
- Galaxy S23+
- Galaxy S23 Ultra
- Galaxy S23 FE
- Galaxy Z Fold5
- Galaxy Z Flip5
- Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
- Galaxy S22 series
- Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4
- The tablets of the Tab S8 series
Note: Older models like the Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, Galaxy Flip3, and Galaxy Fold3 will only receive the “Circle to Search” feature.
Galaxy AI Functions: What Galaxy AI can do
How can you install Galaxy AI? Galaxy AI is not an app that you can or should install. Instead, Samsung integrates the new features into existing apps.
Galaxy AI comes with the update to OneUI 6.1 (Android 14) to your device. Some devices, see also the list of compatible devices, will receive the update a bit later, while others should already have it.
All known Galaxy AI functions at a glance:
- Samsung Keyboard: Additional translation features in every app.
- Photo Editing: Change shadows and reflections. You can also change the position of objects in a photo or completely remove them.
- Generative Edits: Expands images by filling in backgrounds and edges.
- Instant Slow Motion: Generates additional frames in a video to create slow-motion effects with detail and quality.
- Live Translate: Provides audio and text translations during calls in both directions and in real-time. You do not need an internet connection for this.
- Interpreter: Translates conversations in real-time with a shared screen.
- Chat Assist: Galaxy AI generates responses that are tailored to tone and content.
- Note Assist: Creates summaries, produces templates, and generates cover images in the Samsung Notes app.
- Transcript Assist: Transcribes, summarizes, and translates voice recordings.
- Circle to Search: Allows you to search for something on the screen by simply circling, highlighting, or tapping an image or word.
- Health features: Some features are available to you in connection with the Galaxy Ring. These are then exclusively usable on Samsung devices.
Galaxy AI Price: What does Galaxy AI cost?
The good news first: So far, all functions of Galaxy AI are free as long as you have a compatible device.
However, Samsung also points out that there may be features in the future for which users may have to pay. What these could be is not yet known. As stated by Samsung on the German-language page:
Galaxy AI features will be available for free on supported Samsung Galaxy devices at least until the end of 2025. Different conditions may apply to AI features provided by third parties.
