What happens if you don’t buy Dragonflight? Basically, nothing. Your WoW account will continue as long as you pay the subscription fees. You can continue to explore the previous areas from Shadowlands and the base game with your characters and bring new characters to level 60.
You also benefit from some general adjustments, such as balance changes or the new talent trees.
While playing WoW is certainly possible, most players will be focused on endgame content. And without Dragonflight, you won’t have access to that content. You will miss out on:
- Leveling to level 70
- The new race Dracthyr and the associated class Evoker
- The new areas
- Dragon flying
- New raids, dungeons, and PvP at level 70
Should I buy Dragonflight? Yes. While the old content is frequently visited by players who want to level up twinks or newcomers with the new expansion, in the long run, you will run out of players in the old areas.
However, you can wait and see how Dragonflight is received by the masses before blindly purchasing the expansion. Then, it is advisable to either let the subscription rest or play WoW Classic during that time.
Which version of Dragonflight should I buy? Dragonflight is being released in 3 different versions. These cost between €50 and €90 and offer different benefits.
- If you just want access to the expansion, you can buy the Base Edition for €49.99. It includes no special frills.
- For €69.99, you get the Heroic Edition. This includes a character boost to 60, a flying mount, and a battle pet.
- For €89.99, you get the Epic Edition. This adds an additional new toy, skins for head and back, and 30 days of playtime.
No matter which version you buy, there is an additional bonus for pre-orderers, namely the pet “Drakks.” This is a cute little humanoid dragon, essentially a mini-version of a Dracthyr. However, you will only receive this bonus if you purchase Dragonflight before its release.
