Sandbox MMOs are popular because they give players a lot of freedom and opportunities to be creative. But what are your favorite games from the genre?
What is this about? In MMOs and MMORPGs in particular, there is often a distinction between theme park and sandbox. While sandbox stands for more freedom, theme park games usually place more emphasis on quests and a cohesive story.
In this survey, however, we focus only on sandbox games. We want to know which MMO you like the most from this genre.
The sandbox stands for freedom
This is what makes sandbox games special: Sandbox games usually give users more freedoms and options for how the world can be explored and experienced.
Economics and PvP often play a more important role, as in Black Desert or Albion Online. Both are areas where players can be creative themselves. This way, they can earn more money or gain more influence in the game world.
Another feature is building elements, which are present in many sandbox games, though not all. In ArcheAge or Atlas, you can create your own ships, while in Wurm Online or Minecraft you can even alter the entire world.
