A Twitch streamer is currently receiving a lot of praise on the internet for her reaction to the question of what color her thong is. She sharply reprimands the questioner with a publishable speech. The internet celebrates her handling of sexism.
This is the clip: The Twitch streamer negaoryx has around 108,000 followers on Twitch and streams to about 1,000 viewers on average.
She was playing the asymmetric horror game “Dead by Daylight” when a viewer in the stream got her attention, asking her, “What color is your thong?”
The streamer initially groaned in annoyance and said that he should respect women. Then negaoryx asked back what answer he expected to that question. Should she now giggle girlishly, say “blue” and give him her phone number, or what does he think he is doing?
The person in the chat then said, “Do you not understand a joke?” Whereupon the streamer really got fired up. She launched into a publishable speech, citing an expert on the subject and using a professional comedian as an example of why this was not a joke.
“This is not a joke at all, this is sexist shit”
Once she was warmed up, she accused him of not understanding at all what a joke is. It would ruin the whole idea of what a joke is if one simply declares misogynistic crap as a joke afterward, after being confronted with the fact that the statement was sexist crap.
“People say: You can’t make jokes at work anymore. No, the rest of us can still make jokes. You can’t because you never made jokes in the first place, but were a sexist, misogynistic asshole.”
The thing about the “joke” is just a protective mechanism. What happens is that the troll is confronted with the negative aspects of his personality that he himself rejects, but then wants to twist it so that he appears as a hero because everyone is the hero in their own story. But in everyone else’s stories, he is just a footnote.
She confronts him here so that he has to take responsibility for what he says and what kind of person he wants to be.
Over 3 million see the clip
This is how the reactions to the clip are: The clip has now garnered 3.1 million views and 48,500 retweets. The biggest streamer on Twitch, Pokimane, says: “The clip is just so good.” Pokimane is thrilled with how negaoryx speaks here.
Most other Twitter users under the clip are also impressed that the streamer gives such a profound speech while still focused on playing Dead by Daylight. That is almost seen as a superhuman achievement.
Why can the streamer counter so confidently? negaoryx says that she has been facing this behavior regularly for 4 or 5 years. She now knows exactly what she wants to say on the subject. This is nothing new that she has said. She has only vocalized what she thinks every time she sees comments like “What color is your thong?”
Also in Germany, we recently had a sexism discussion. The sexist remark was made to a woman, but not typed in the chat, but over voice chat by another Twitch streamer:
