Luke Smith is one of the most well-known developers from Bungie. He took on the role of design lead for Destiny and also led the development of the DLC “The Taken King” as game director. When Destiny 2 also started to struggle, he again took on the role of lead and held the position of game director until 2020.
After his withdrawal, not much was heard from the once savior of the loot shooter until 2024, when a large wave of layoffs swept through Bungie. Insiders reported on secret projects, including “Destiny: Payback,” which Luke Smith had been working on for several years. When the project was canceled, Luke voluntarily left Bungie. Since then, his current whereabouts are unclear.
