When Temtem was introduced on Kickstarter, it caused a stir primarily due to its parallels to Pokémon. The game has been in Alpha version 0.2 for about a month now, and we tell you whether it is worth keeping an eye on the monster game.
That’s why Temtem is considered a Pokémon MMO: Just like the great original, Pokémon, the titular monsters are the center of attention in Temtem. These are creatures of various types that you can encounter all over the game world.
At the beginning of the game, your self-created character is accompanied by two of their own Temtem, who will fight alongside you on your adventure.
Travel through various areas called Archipelagoes, battle, catch, evolve or breed Temtem. All of this can be done online with your friends.
Release still far away – Alpha 0.2 released: The release of Temtem is planned for May 2020.
The game is currently in Alpha version 0.2. This brought bug fixes, but above all new features and content. With the release of Alpha update 0.2, some buyers also had temporary access to Temtem.
This is what’s included in Alpha 0.2:
- a brand new map: Omnesia
- an expansion of the main campaign
- full character customization: various cosmetic items and colors can now be bought for your trainer at a boutique
- trading with other players
- Tempedia: here all info on the Temtem you have encountered on your adventures is stored
- a minimap
- 22 new Temtem
How is the Alpha build received by the community?
The mood in the Temtem subreddit is mostly positive, albeit critical.
DustyPopcorn writes: “Damn, this game is so addictive! I had so much fun that I completed everything the game currently offers. I would still wish for more variety (currently perhaps a bit too much to ask). While playing with my friend, we nearly always had the same Temtem, especially since you always get the same ones from the story.”
The Redditor M_Odds says: “I haven’t had this much excitement for a Pokémon/monster collecting game since the early 2000s. It’s currently 3 AM. I made my Alpha purchase a little earlier this night and have now completely fallen in love with the critters and the game mechanics. I haven’t managed to reach the 2nd big city/route yet. Aside from a few lags at the beginning, I had a very good gaming experience.”
The user BAK47ED: “Honestly, it’s very profound. The Temtem you use will make a difference. The play style is crucial, and the mental games I’ve played so far for competitive battles show a lot of depth in combat and team composition.”
7 Things that are special about Temtem
- Completely online: Temtem focuses entirely on an online experience. Meet up with your friends, challenge them to battles or trade Temtem with them.
- Co-op story mode with dual battles: The main campaign can be completed together with your friends. Team up against other Temtem trainers.
- individual character design: Create your own trainer in the character editor at the start and customize them later.
- no random factor in battles: Battles require 100% skill and tactics.
- PVP: Challenge your friends and other trainers. Tournaments and ranked matches including a leaderboard are also planned.
- Stylish graphics: Temtem looks great thanks to the Unity Engine.
- planned crossplay: If all goes well, interaction between all platforms should be possible.

That’s why it’s worth keeping an eye on Temtem
This is what Temtem offers now: The game currently offers around 10 hours of fun due to the missing content and already seems to be a solid experience technically.
A larger influx of content is expected with the start of the early access phase in early autumn.
This is the forecast for the future: The development of Temtem is progressing diligently. The developers of Crema regularly release new updates with bug fixes, balance adjustments, and new features. Details are shared with the community in the official Temtem forum, and player feedback is also considered for future changes.
For all fans of monster collecting games like Pokémon, Temtem remains an interesting game.
Can I play Temtem before the release? As a PC player, it will be possible. Crema announced via Twitter that there will be a purchasable early access version for Steam starting in September 2019. When the time comes, simply search for Temtem in the Steam store.
