The aliens in Elite: Dangerous prove to be more persistent than expected. The newly discovered countermeasures become ineffective after just a few days. The Thargoids have adapted.
The space simulation Elite: Dangerous has long been considered a bit boring. There was too little to do in space. This changes with each patch.
Currently, developers Frontier have introduced a long-anticipated threat into the game: the insectoid aliens Thargoids. They have been a challenge for humanity in the Elite series for over 30 years.
Today’s aliens are not stupid, prove to be adaptable, and therefore quite dangerous.

A sort of arms race is taking place between aliens and humanity in Elite: Dangerous:
- At the beginning, human pilots could not even scratch the Thargoids’ ships.
- Then, about a week ago, an in-game event provided players with “anti-alien” missiles. Now pilots could take down the alien ships.
- But for the past few days, the missiles have hardly done anything. In a “lore” news, the Galnet News, it states: “The Thargoids have adapted – the missiles are no longer as effective.” The aliens seem to be adaptable – they have also learned technically and tactically, behave now more cleverly and are thereby even more dangerous.
- The next step for humanity in Elite: Dangerous is to collect alien tissue with special items to develop a new, even more powerful weapon.
Some fans see adjustment of the aliens as a nerf
As the US site Kotaku reports, this whole development is not entirely well received by the fans.
The aliens’ adaptation to the missiles is perceived by players in Elite: Dangerous as a nerf to the weapons. It also comes too early; many players have not even had time to test the weapons and properly take down aliens.
Well, what for some is an intergalactic arms race – for others is a stupid nerf.
A few days ago, pilots were still wondering: Should we kill the aliens:
Pilots in Elite Dangerous can kill aliens – but should they?
