Fallout 76 is set in the US state of West Virginia. Since the game’s introduction, interest in this previously less noted state has been rising. Therefore, some businesses in West Virginia are hoping for a wave of tourists from Fallout fans.
West Virginia is the setting of Fallout 76: To make the setting as authentic as possible, the developers have transferred many (but not all) real-world locations into the game. Even local legends and monsters – like the Mothman – are present in the game.
This attention delights the residents of real-life West Virginia. Especially since interest in their state is suddenly surging.
People are suddenly interested in West Virginia
What is so special about the interest in West Virginia? The state of West Virginia is located in the mountainous region of the Appalachians and rarely makes it to the media. It seems that not much is happening there. Even tourism has been limited so far.
But the interest seems to be changing. According to the local station WCHS, visitor numbers on the tourism website West Virginia Explorer reportedly surged from 2,000 to 30,000 following the E3 trailer of Fallout 76. So people are suddenly interested in the state!
Camden Park as a new tourist attraction?
Also in the center of attention: The amusement park Camden Park. This fairground is one of the more important locations from West Virginia that are also included in the game. Since the Fallout 76 hype, calls have been increasing. Additionally, there have been more inquiries for T-shirts from the park.
An employee of the amusement park likes what he has seen of Fallout 76 so far. He believes that Camden Park will benefit from Fallout 76: “We have never had so much national publicity, so we will wait and see what happens.”
Fallout 76 will be an online survival game and is set to be released on November 14, 2018.
