How have the last few months been at Mein MMO? What is planned for Christmas and what can you expect in 2018 on our website for online gaming?
The holidays are just around the corner. This is the time to reflect or stuff your face with various roasted meats – and it is time for a greeting from the editorial team. Every two to three months, we at Mein MMO want to pause briefly and explain to you how the last months have been for us and what we have planned for the near future.

2017 – a year of growth and learning
For us at Mein MMO, 2017 was a year in which we learned a lot.
While at the end of 2014 we were still a small MMO blog with a handful of people, many more people are now working on Mein MMO in 2017. We are now the largest magazine for online gaming in Europe. This requires different structures and ways of working.
In 2017, many changes happened behind the scenes. The way we work and communicate in the editorial team is completely different in December 2017 than it was at the beginning of the year. Additionally, we are increasingly understanding what you, the readers, expect from us and are striving to meet the growing demands on our site.
Not everything works out perfectly. Some new attempts miss the mark, while others fall short and fizzle out. But overall, we feel that we made significant progress with our website in 2017.

Thus, we set out for events much more often than before, playing and accompanying games extensively ourselves. The growing status of Mein MMO is evident, for example, in that we received exclusive information about Monster Hunter World in developer interviews that then spread around the world.
The most important asset of any site, besides the readers, is the writers. Throughout the year, we have gained three new authors who work daily on Mein MMO. We introduced Benedict and Robert to you in September.
Since then, author Guddy Hoffmann-Schoenborn has joined us. She has strengthened the editorial team since mid-October. Guddy has covered for us the turbulent launch of Star Wars Battlefront 2, visited the Hearthstone Tavern, and has summarized the history of MMOs.

Surely you will read and see much more from Guddy in the future.
2017 – the results
The year 2017 was successful for us.
The first half of the year was thin in new games – we were mainly occupied with expansions to existing major MMORPGs. During that time, we had about 100,000 visitors on the site every day.

With September and Destiny 2, we then gained significant momentum. On September 14, during a grueling maintenance for Destiny 2, we broke the user record for simultaneous active users. The number of visitors has now leveled out to about 150,000 people per day.
Overall, we have grown by about 40% in 2017 compared to the previous year. This is all the more remarkable because there was actually a long absence of major releases and novelties in 2017. Thus, 2017 was also a time when we learned to find topics that interest our readers, even when there is little going on.

It is one thing to run a site about online gaming when blockbuster games are being released. But it’s another when it’s mid-February and the studios’ blinds are still drawn. But even that can be managed.
Christmas at Mein MMO
We will still be here for you over the Christmas holidays, but not as active as during the rest of the year. We also spend time with our families and friends.
To conclude 2017, we have prepared a series of polls where you can vote for your favorite MMO. We hope you actively participate in these polls to tell the gaming companies which games you want to make happy this Christmas and which games will have nothing under the Christmas tree.
Vote here for the MMO / Online game of the year 2017!

What 2018 will bring
In 2017, we worked a lot on the inside, rearranging and innovating.
In 2018, a lot will happen on the outside. For February, a relaunch of our website is planned. This won’t just be a “fresh coat of paint.” After the reopening, the website will gradually receive additional features for the readers:
- We will introduce a user account system, so you can register here on Mein MMO and customize the site to your personal preferences. Many of you have requested that you be able to see only certain games or exclude certain games altogether. That should be possible.
- We plan for you to be able to write user reviews of games – because we believe that you are the experts on many games
- The performance of the site will improve, so it should be faster
- We are considering a mobile app in 2018
- and we want to experiment with a forum – forum and app are the two requests we have heard most frequently from you
The focus of Mein MMO in 2018 will be to involve you, the community, more in the site. In conversations with readers, we often hear that we have built a respectable and beautiful community. We want to bring this community into sharper focus in 2018 and respond to their needs.

Keep your fingers crossed for us that all of this works out. You know how it is with patches and updates – a lot can be said, but what ultimately comes out is what matters.
We of the editorial team at Mein MMO wish you and your friends and families a peaceful and joyful Christmas 2017 and a happy new year.
We all wish for a year 2018 in which online gaming makes a big leap forward and gives us great gaming hours with friends!
