In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone, there are quite a few weapons available. Some of them have been annoying us since the release, and therefore MeinMMO shows here the hate weapons of CoD and what makes them so unpleasant.
Getting a bad reputation in Call of Duty is actually quite easy. This applies to weapons but also to players:
- Cheaters – Bottom of the barrel
- Tea Baggers – Mean dogs
- Yelling in voice chat – CoD kid
While we usually get rid of these annoying soldiers after a match, hate weapons remain a problem permanently.
We repeatedly see the same weapons or play styles in our kill cams and we angrily hammer the respawn button to quickly hunt down the disliked weapon carrier – preferably, of course, with the same device the guy is using.
But which gun has developed into a true hate weapon? I, MeinMMO author Maik Schneider, have reflected on the time since release and present here a few weapons that many players of CoD MW 2019 have learned to hate – but also like to use themselves. Just like me.
The 4 most hated weapons that are constantly used
The weapons on this list belong to the regulars based on usage rates. Unlike some other candidates that could use a buff. Here, the focus is on weapons and play styles that we hate getting killed by:
- RPG
- Grau 5.56
- MP5 / M4A1
- Gas grenades and shotguns on Shipment
- 725 / Akimbo Snake Shot (review)
- FAL (preview)
The list is based on my own assessments, the order is not evaluative and in general you should read the text with a wink.
RPG – The exploding insult
Hardly anything is as annoying as a RPG death when you think you actually played much better than the stupid rocket launcher. With their large explosion radius, RPGs hit players behind cover and if you have already lost some health, the explosion often takes you out.
This can be very frustrating, especially when it happens more often and from the same guy. You might get loud or use your input devices against recommendations, because it feels almost like an insult flying back at you.
This can help: Instead of going on a rocket rampage yourself without success, be aware that players with an RPG are almost always at a disadvantage when facing a soldier with a gun.
They only have one shot and it feels like they take forever to aim. The projectile won’t launch until they are completely in its sights. Target RPG players even in critical situations and keep moving. This way, you often take out the launcher player before they even shoot their rockets. Knowing more about the effects of rocket launchers in CoD is also useful.
Grau 5.56 – The killcam weapon of Warzone
Oh yes, the Grau, what can one say. Before its justified nerf with the biggest balance update ever for MW & Warzone 2019, the weapon was unmissable in any killcam of Warzone. It even displaced sniper rifles and was for a long time the queen among Warzone weapons.
Many players cursed the weapon for so long until it ended up in their own loadout. And even after its nerf, it maintains its status as the best weapon in Warzone because it wasn’t completely nerfed into the ground. Many still play it and many still complain.
This can help: After its nerf, the selection is now broader and you can also choose weapons that better match your playstyle. The time-to-kill (TTK) of the Grau is quite high in comparison, but packing the LMG Bruen Mk9 or the buffed FAL will make Grau players worry less. We will talk about the FAL later.
MP5 / M4A1 – The annoying regulars
The two top performers M4 and MP5 have been competing at the top level since the start of the current CoD. Even in the “Call of Duty League” (CDL), they are considered top choices, even though the AUG has been catching up a bit against the MP5.
Actually, the point has already been surpassed at which one could be genuinely annoyed by these two. Everyone has played them and knows the advantages of both regulars, but also their weaknesses. Still, it can be annoying when a “jump-slide-lay” sweat with the MP5 just barely got you.
This can help: Play the guns, nothing else will help here. Both weapons have been nerfed from time to time, but hoping that they will disappear entirely from the meta soon seems unlikely.
Gas grenades and shotguns on Shipment – The rage combo
Shipment can be quite exhausting. What makes it even worse are annoying teammates racing through the container aisles with their shotguns and delivering lead-filled disappointments. One player even compiled a brilliant video on the subject once.
Whether you just want to take a “relaxed” round on Shipment or the battle pass needs a few more levels, shotguns can be of no use at all. Until you reach the point of camo collecting.
Then you discover the gas grenade and that it forces your enemies into hip fire. It doesn’t bother you because shotguns often perform excellently from the hip. And soon you find yourself, blood-smeared, in the middle of Shipment, far away from the next position that someone should actually take, laughing at opponents in your gas cloud.
This can help: What tips can one give for Shipment? Running away is not an option; you started the mode for a reason. Being aware of your back does not help either, as someone can come from the front.
If you have several shotgun players on the opposing team, avoid the path through the middle and rather use cover that does not stand against the walls. The range of shotguns in CoD MW is quite short, but if you let them get too close, not even the MP5 will help.
Nerfed but unforgettable: 725 and Snake Shot Akimbo
First-hour players of Modern Warfare surely remember the 725 shotgun from the initial MW builds. Hardly any weapon generated as much hate and joy at the same time. It took over a month and 3 nerfs before the gun was brought under control and became acceptable.
A short but powerful phase had the “Snake Shot” ammunition of the .357 Magnum. As Akimbo, that is, with 2 guns in hand, the revolvers were unbeatable at close range. Additionally, you could take the Akimbo Magnum simply as a secondary weapon, thus getting a fully functional shotgun without equipping “Overkill”. After a nerf, the .357 revolver disappeared back into the arsenal.
Outlook: OP weapon FAL as the latest rage valve
The FAL received a substantial buff with the major mid-season update of Season 4. The assault rifle now offers the best damage values for short and medium distances, but has a significant disadvantage: The FAL is a semi-automatic rifle.
However, the gun has the potential to become the next big hate weapon in CoD, as it can take out opponents in multiplayer with a headshot and also secures quick kills in Warzone.
In case a strong automatic attachment for the weapon comes, which a leak suggests, get yourself a thick skin and gather a few shotgun kills on Shipment with open voice chat. Then you can endure anything.
If you think of anything else on the topic, feel free to write it in the comments and tell us which weapons annoy you the most.
