In The Division 2 , developer Massive has announced a new, free feature: the Expeditions are set to arrive with Episode 1. They are keeping details under wraps, but seem to promise puzzles. The mysteries in the new area are said to appeal to those who already delighted in hunting for the 12 masks.
What is the new feature? Expeditions are essentially new zones. It is said that they are “previously unexplored places around Washington DC.”
However, this should not be confused with the two new missions, in the Park and in the Zoo, which will also come with Episode 1.
Massive promises:
- unique challenges and storylines
- new collectibles
- environmental puzzles
- unique boss mechanics
- and much more
The first Expedition apparently takes place at “Kenly College,” as revealed by the impressive concept art. Nature seems to want to reclaim this educational institution.

When is it coming? The feature will arrive with Episode 1 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One – likely in July or August 2019. Season Pass owners can play it immediately – those without will have to wait a week.
Here’s how you get to the new expedition, Kenly College: Players can either use the helicopter in front of the White House or travel there via fast travel.

What do you play there? It is said that each expedition area consists of three locations, each with different themes.
Players must unlock these 3 locations sequentially. You can then explore these locations in The Division 2 as often and for as long as you want. Secrets are said to be hidden there.
It sounds like a much greater version of the “Secret Missions” in The Division 2, which were tied to the Season Pass but were rather short.
Is it worth it? Whoever completes all three locations will gain access to a “treasure room” with rewards. Exact details have not yet been revealed by the developers of The Division 2.
However, it is quite possible that with Episode 1, the gear will improve. The increase in gear score had been something The Division 2 had refrained from for some weeks.

Challenges are coming to The Division 2
Here’s the special twist: There is a “Mastery system” in these expeditions with challenges that can be completed repeatedly and are rated with Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
The rank is said to be based on the individual performance of the agent – not on the performance of the group.
Massive also promises “Sold.”

This is what Massive says about the Expeditions: In a conversation with the site Gamesradar, Massive states:
- The expeditions will be narratively connected. They are three isolated places that are connected through a shared narrative
- There will be no hand-holding – players will have to figure out what happened there themselves
- There will be puzzles, and at Massive they are looking forward to seeing how players solve them
- Even the 12 masks have been well received by players, so they now want to do something similar
Episode 1 with the new content will probably still be a few weeks away – but next week, Update 4 will come, which brings many improvements.
