In recent years, and especially with the current expansion “The War Within,” World of Warcraft has ensured that lone wolves are offered more and more. In addition to the “usual” content that has been playable alone for years (such as quests, professions, and nearly all outdoor activities), there have been several innovations specifically designed for solo players:
- Depths (Delves) are small “dungeons” that can be tackled alone and have an increasing difficulty level – for every skill level.
- Dungeons now have a function that allows you to visit them with NPCs, rather than relying on other teammates.
Additionally, there is a wealth of activities that have always been a good engagement for solo players: achievements, pet battles, and collecting transmog.
By now, Blizzard even officially provides tips on how you can play World of Warcraft alone, without ever having to interact with others.
What World of Warcraft Offers for Group Fans
In contrast, many believe that an MMORPG can only be played “correctly” if you take advantage of social features and primarily play in groups. Of course, after all, WoW is an MMORPG and the “Massive Multiplayer” should be felt. For many, that is the appeal of why they play World of Warcraft at all. Numerous contents are impossible without other teammates:
- Tough dungeons like Mythic+
- Raids at multiple difficulty levels
- PvP in the form of battlegrounds or arenas
Additionally, social features such as guilds, communities, or the crafting system indirectly encourage interacting with other people.
Most features in the game are designed to also be completed with a group. There are only a few exceptions (like pet battles), so the majority of content is definitely suitable for group fans.
