With all the wide selection of games that have been released year after year for decades, some games make you feel like you’ve played them too late. Even in the editorial team of MeinMMO, there are titles we regret not having played earlier.
You know the situation: Besides work, household, hobbies, and the varying degrees of maintaining social contacts, many gamers don’t have the opportunity to try all the games they actually wanted to test. For various reasons, some games keep moving further down the priority list until they are almost forgotten.
So, but also for other possible reasons, it may happen that you discover a game that gives you the feeling: “Crap. Why didn’t I play this much earlier?”
Even in the editorial team of MeinMMO, there are several different games where we wish we could turn back time to have followed various titles earlier or even at release. Of course, that’s not possible, so feel free to read about our personal gaming regrets.

MMORPGs
Our MMO expert Karsten wishes he hadn’t neglected a game too much, and that would be:
The Lord of the Rings Online… At that time, the WoW addiction was just too strong. And it simply hasn’t aged well enough for me to “catch up” properly.
Editor Benedict feels that he noticed an MMO at the wrong time. For him, it is:
Warhammer Online: Because it’s dead now. I would have loved to play it when it was still around😀 Back then, I wasn’t deep into Warhammer yet.
Editor Jasmin is just glad she started an MMO late rather than never:
In my youth, I spent a lot of time in MMORPGs, so I couldn’t extensively test every game. Usually, there was only time to briefly check out MMORPGs and select, with Final Fantasy XIV unfortunately coming up short.
When I finally started the game after several years, the third DLC Shadowbringers had already been released. My colleague Alexander Mehrwald had previously fallen in love with the game and recommended that I give the MMORPG another chance. Since I wanted to experience the story from beginning to end, I decided to play long and intense sessions. For me, it was not an option to skip the story for real money just to jump to the current expansion.
Due to the intense gameplay experience, I was completely immersed in the story and almost fell into a hole. This was mainly due to the well-written characters, with Alisaie sneaking into my heart. Had I experienced the story stretched over several years, the experience would probably not have been as intense. Therefore, I am glad I played through the Hydaelyn saga in one go. I still fondly remember that time.
Our editor-in-chief Leya also regrets not finding a home in an MMO earlier. And that is:
World of Warcraft. I grew up in a very small village with brutally poor internet connection. I really got into online games only when I was already an adult and moved out.
I love listening to people share their first experiences with WoW, as it was still unusual to play online with others and build a social circle together. I would have loved to have participated from the beginning and not just when it had already become the norm to play MMOs together.
