4. Final Fantasy 14 – Zenos yae Galvus
Who is Zenos? As the main antagonist of Stormblood, Zenos is at the center of the expansion. In the story of FFXIV, he is the legate of the XIIth Legion and son of Emperor Varis zos Galvus, who rules the evil empire of Garlemald.
At the beginning of Stormblood, he is the imperial viceroy of Ala Mhigo, one of the enslaved provinces of the empire.
Zenos could never find anyone who was his equal in battle, which is why he was plagued by boredom. When he meets the player’s character in Final Fantasy 14 and this character can stand up to him, he becomes fascinated. He develops a kind of grotesque love for the player.
What personality does Zenos have? He is evil, arrogant, and has no respect for human life. Primarily, he is characterized by his hunger for a challenge.
He actively seeks strong opponents he wants to conquer and derives a nearly perverse satisfaction from fighting.
Why is he evil? Zenos, as the son of the emperor, is a spoiled brat. As he could never find anyone who posed a challenge for him, his arrogant attitude solidified. He believes he is the most powerful person in the world and wants to enjoy that power.
What was his worst deed? Zenos is a cruel ruler, and the list of his atrocities is long. He rules Ala Mhigo with an iron fist, treating its citizens like slaves in the name of the Garlemald empire.
He murders for fun and has Garlean scientists conduct experiments on other people to find out how he could become even stronger.
Was he defeated? Players encounter Zenos several times. However, they cannot defeat him the first two times. Only during the retaking of Ala Mhigo do they succeed and force him to retreat.
