You have given us a lot of feedback about the upvotes and downvotes in our comment system. It has now been adjusted accordingly.
What was the problem? In the past few weeks, we have read many comments from you expressing dissatisfaction with the state of the upvotes and downvotes.
In the previous Disqus comment system, it was possible to:
- see both the amount of upvotes and downvotes at the same time
- see the names of the users who rated your comments
Both were not true in the new system, and this was criticized by you. In your feedback, you offered two possible solutions:
- to make the names of users visible with upvotes and downvotes
- to completely remove the downvote option
This is what we have changed: From today, the downvote system for comments no longer exists. We thought long about which solution we wanted to adopt for the problem and opted for the systems as they are used, for example, on Twitter or Facebook.
You can now give an upvote in the form of a heart to comments that you find informative, funny, or simply good. Similar to what is already the case with our articles.
If you disagree with the content of a particular comment and would like to express it, you can gladly present your opinion in your own comment as objectively as possible.
Why not make the names of downvoters visible? In the old Disqus comment system, it was possible to see the names of the users who gave your comment a downvote.
However, this sometimes led to hostilities and harassment between users. Therefore, we decided against supporting this system on our site.
What’s next? Our “To do” list for improving the comment system is long and will be worked through over time. However, you are welcome to post further suggestions and requests in the comments. We will take a look at all of them.
