Making money from your own living room is a dream for many. For some German-speaking streamers, this dream has come true. Especially in January 2025, the income from subscriptions on Twitch seems to be flowing particularly well: Among the top 20 streamers on Twitch with the most paid subscriptions, there are 8 streamers and streamer teams from our region, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Particularly pleasing: 2 women are included as well. They were rarely found among the top earners in the past.
Where are the numbers from? The page “Twitch Tracker” lists the subscriptions of individual streamers. The numbers on Twitch Tracker are the generally accepted figures that the streamers themselves look at as well. However, whether the number is always accurate to 5 decimal places is unknown.
The number of hours each streamer was live in the last 30 days was obtained from Sullygnome.
What is the value of such a subscription? A tier 1 subscription costs €4.99 in Germany. Streamers who meet certain requirements and thus become partners of Twitch receive 70% of the revenue. Besides Twitch fees, money also goes to the tax office and PayPal.
Typically, a subscription counts for one month and must be renewed afterward.
Besides tier-1 subscriptions, which also come as subscriptions through Prime or can be gifted, there are more expensive, higher-tier subscriptions. Additionally, streamers have numerous other revenue sources, such as direct marketing or advertising revenue. However, both are not relevant for our article; we exclude that.
In our article, we consider only tier-1 subscriptions. The actual revenues of the streamers are likely to be significantly higher. We use a subscription calculator to arrive at the numbers (via gaming-tools): It already deducts the share of Twitch, the fee costs of PayPal, and part of the taxes.
