In FIFA 23 there are numerous formations to choose from. However, finding a really strong one is not that easy, and often you look to the professionals for formation tips. But which formation would an artificial intelligence recommend? We tested it.
First of all, an important note that probably every FIFA player has heard at least once: The best formation is the one you feel most comfortable with. However, after all the updates and changes in the meta over the past months, current tips regarding formations can’t hurt.
That’s why we asked an artificial intelligence for help and inquired about the best formation in FIFA 23.
These 4 formations for FIFA 23 are recommended by the AI.
We asked Google’s Bard the following: “What is the best formation in FIFA 23?”. An answer didn’t take long to arrive and the AI immediately produced four formations.
4-2-3-1
First, the AI suggests the classic 4-2-3-1 and tells us that this formation is very versatile. It is good for both offensive and defensive play, especially because it offers 2 defensive midfielders who can secure the back and 3 attacking players who can create chances.
4-3-3
Then the AI suggests the good old 4-3-3, which is currently really rarely seen in FIFA 23. According to Bard, this formation is great for balanced play with 3 midfielders who help control the midfield and 3 forwards who can score goals.
However, the AI does not talk about the lack of a defensive midfielder.
3-5-2
As a third option, the AI recommends a formation that is even a bit of a hidden gem this year: the 3-5-2. To play this formation correctly, you need 3 really strong center-backs since they will solely represent the defense.
Additionally, the central attacking midfielder position plays an extremely important role in creating scoring opportunities.
4-1-2-1-2
Finally, the AI shows us the 4-1-2-1-2, which many have probably already played this year. The AI recommends this formation because it allows for a lot of ball possession and helps create chances through the midfield. It also offers a defensive midfielder who secures the back and an offensive midfielder who can feed the strikers with passes.
In total, the AI offers the following formations:

- 4-3-3
- 3-5-2
- 4-1-2-1-2
