The action role-playing game and dungeon crawler Wayfinder provided you with a major update on October 31, 2023. The new content is introduced in a short trailer, but in the comments, players are mainly asking about Free2Play.
What is it about? Wayfinder is a cooperative online game, which probably has a rather bad reputation among many players due to its somewhat failed launch. Nevertheless, the game managed to excite some players and keep them engaged until today.
Now players, after the first major updates in August, receive another update with plenty of content. As of October 31, 2023, this is, according to developers, the largest update in the game so far.

What does the update include: The update is titled The Reaver King
and comes with new quests, weapons, and improvements.
Among them are the four new main quests: The Hollow Heart, Wormwood, Roots of Evil, and The Final Battle. The big goal connected to the main quests seems to be the Reaver King
. The quests seem to lead you directly there.
There are also three new side quests introduced with the update. You can learn more about the side quests and how to unlock them on the official website (via playwayfinder.com).
In addition to the new quests, you get several new contents with the update:
- Two new enemies: Wormwood and The Reaver King
- New weapons: Legacy, Eclipse, Rose & Thorne, and Nightshade
- In-game improvements
What are the reactions? Although the game has a rather bad reputation among many, players are especially looking forward to the new content, as clearly seen in the comments (via YouTube):

With the new update, Wayfinder seems to have appealed to some new players as well. For instance, user Paradise385 writes that they just bought the game but are completely in love after five hours, and there are a few other comments from players who are just now becoming aware of the game.
In this context, there are many comments especially asking for a Free2Play version. Many players seem interested in the game but would only give it a chance if it were free to play for them.
Free2Play version is expected to be released in early 2024
In response to user retr0259’s question about when the game would be free to play, user Stagonas replied that it should be ready in February 2024, if he remembers correctly.
If we go by the official statements from the developers (via Steam), we can indeed expect the Free2Play version in February. They stated that the free version would be released after the early access, specifically after two full early access seasons. According to the developers, this takes six months.
If one calculates six months after the release in August, we indeed arrive at February 2024. Whether the developers can keep this promise will be seen next year.
The feedback received during early access is intended to be used by the developers to improve the game before the full release. They promise additional areas, enemies, weapons, and Wayfinder in the full version.
