The open-world game Watch Dogs Legion will feature a multiplayer mode with co-op in addition to the single-player campaign. But when will this mode arrive, how will the gameplay work, and what missions and modes are available? Find out here at MeinMMO.
Update February 23, 2021: It has now been announced that the co-op mode will be released with a free update on March 9, 2021. This update includes:
- Open world co-op
- 4-player operations
- 8-player Spider Bot Arena
When is the release of the co-op mode? First things first: The multiplayer mode of Watch Dogs Legion is not implemented at the release of the game. The developers at Ubisoft will introduce this mode later in 2021. This update is free, and from then on the multiplayer mode will be available.

Everything about the gameplay in the upcoming multiplayer co-op
How many players are involved? The group size in the co-op of Watch Dogs Legion is four. You can take up to three friends with you. You recruit your characters from the population of London, just like in the base game. It doesn’t matter who you play. If you want, you can embody a gang of rowdy hooligans or a tea party of killer grandmas. Whether that’s tactically smart is another matter.
Can you play the story campaign in co-op? No, the co-op campaign is a completely separate mode that has nothing to do with the main game. You cannot transfer your characters from the single-player mode to co-op.
Just imagine the multiplayer mode of Watch Dogs Legion like GTA Online, which also exists separately from the story campaign.
How does the open world work in multiplayer? Essentially, Watch Dogs plays in co-op like in solo mode. Moreover, random events frequently occur in London that you can participate in. Due to the unpredictability and inherent chaos of Watch Dogs Legion, every trip to London can become a unique experience.
In co-op, the recruitment missions from the solo mode are omitted. Your characters will thus be recruited right off the street for your hacker collective. However, you need influence points, which you earn from missions. You can learn more about this in the following paragraph.
These co-op missions and PvP modes are coming
What co-op missions are available? The missions allow you to exert influence on the game world and also provide you with influence points with which you can recruit new and better recruits for your freedom fight. In addition to the random events, there are two types of missions that require a bit more skill and coordination.
In regular co-op missions, you have a specific objective and must demonstrate a minimum amount of teamwork to accomplish it satisfactorily.
For those who prefer a bit more challenge, you can take on Tactical Ops. These require a team of four players who actually need to divide the tasks. One player must distract the guards, another hacks the security monitors, and another player sneaks through the shadows.
What about PvP? In PvP, the developers have come up with something special. The highlight here is certainly the Spider Bot Arena. Your spider robots compete against each other in a kind of robot death match.
Those who know earlier Watch Dogs games may be familiar with the invasion mode. There, other players invade your area and try to hack you. You must prevent this, and in a wild game of cat and mouse, you pursue the intruders and eliminate them before they can cause too much damage.
In addition to these contents, the developers plan to later add more modes. However, Watch Dogs Legion is currently not in good standing with fans. According to Metacritic, the game only scores 75 points despite generally good reviews. Read here what’s behind it.
