At E3, Ubisoft presented the open-world action game Watch Dogs Legion. Players are now wondering if there will be a multiplayer mode, as nothing has been said about it yet. However, fans can be excited: Watch Dogs 3 will feature a co-op mode for up to 4 players.
What is Watch Dogs Legion? The latest installment in the open-world action game series transports you to near-future London. England has become a surveillance state after Brexit, and the underground organization DedSec is trying to spark a revolution. To do this, as many citizens as possible need to be mobilized.
Play as Anyone
What makes the game special? You do not play as a predetermined character, but can recruit any NPC in the city and play as them. Each person has unique abilities that you need to utilize in missions.
If a character dies, they are really dead. You will need to find a “replacement”.
There is Multiplayer
What about multiplayer? The two predecessors offered an asynchronous multiplayer mode, where players could occasionally appear at specific locations. You would then either have to fight them or hack them.
No information about a multiplayer mode for Watch Dogs Legion was discussed during the E3 presentation. However, information has now appeared in the Uplay store that you can take your team into the online mode and cooperatively face challenges with three other friends.
Watch Dogs Online Mode will be Expanded
It’s possible to explore the world together and master co-op missions as well as endgame content. The online mode is expected to be regularly expanded with new content such as additional modes and events.
This suggests that you will complete the story alone in single-player and can additionally utilize an online mode. It does not seem like you will be able to experience the story cooperatively.
But a final confirmation is still pending.
What else was said about the online mode? Creative Director Clint Hocking explained during E3 that teamwork is important. He did not want to reveal if there would be additional modes beside the 4-player co-op mode at release. However, it is possible that you can show each other’s teams to determine which player has recruited which NPCs.
When does Watch Dogs Legion? Ubisoft will release the new action game on March 6, 2020.
