The ambitious Kickstarter MMO Crowfall does many things differently than traditional online role-playing games. Learn here what Crowfall is about and how it works. And there’s a video from our YouTuber partner Refaser as a bonus!
What is this Crowfall that people keep talking about? If you often ask yourself this question, we have answers for you! With the help of our YouTube partner Refaser, we have compiled the most important information about the open-world throne war MMO.
Crowfall comes from an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign that raised about 1.7 million US dollars in 2015. Numerous veteran developers are also involved in Crowfall, who have previously worked on games like Ultima Online or Star Wars: Galaxies. Crowfall is currently playable only on specific weekends as an alpha, but it is set to officially release as a Buy2Play title with an optional VIP subscription at the end of 2017.
Crowfall – Complex Character and Skill System
Instead of cobbling together a simple hero with a few skills, Crowfall allows you to create a truly detailed hero. You can choose what advantages and disadvantages your hero has right from the start. This way, no two avatars are alike.
There are a total of 13 classes, which can be further developed into one of three ascension classes. For further specialization, you can learn additional disciplines that grant you further skills, crafting methods, or weapon proficiencies. Among the classes, there are tanks, damage dealers, but no pure healers.
Rather, there are supporters like the Druid, who can also heal, but not exclusively. Crowfall also has no levels, you level up your preferred skills, which can be done both passively over time and actively through continuous use.
Through the “Vessel” system, it becomes even more variable.
Building Kingdoms in Crowfall
Also cool: Your hero has what is called an “Eternal Kingdom.” In it, you build buildings in the best Minecraft tradition and can assemble parcels and terrain features on the map as you like.
If you invite other players, you can appoint them as your vassals and build a feudal pyramid. At the top is the king, followed by (arch)dukes, counts, barons, and at the bottom simple tenants and their serfs.
Into the Campaign!
If you want to further expand your kingdom, you need items and resources that you must obtain from the campaigns. Campaigns are individual game worlds with up to 1,000 players. Crowfall also always focuses on PvP and player interaction.
You will therefore find PvE elements like raids in vain. Each campaign follows its own rules and goes through the seasons from spring to winter. Over time, life becomes harsher, and resources become scarce. In the end, the world is ultimately destroyed, and hopefully, you have managed to bring all the necessary treasures into your eternal kingdom by then.
For more detailed information about Crowfall, character creation, skills, and campaign worlds along with the kingdom, you can find it here in the video from our YouTube partner Refaser. Have fun!
