In the survival MMO Fallout 76, a specific weapon type is indeed strong, but it comes with an unpleasant side effect: It ruins loot and respawns!
Which weapons are we talking about? We are referring to energy weapons. They are strong in the survival MMO Fallout 76, but they also have the effect of melting enemies into a pile of disgusting sludge after their death.
Molten enemies ruin loot for everyone
What is the problem with molten enemies? This sludge is worthless, and there is no loot contained within it. So, it’s not particularly rewarding to melt enemies into slime.
But the matter is even worse. According to a user on Reddit , death is permanent for all enemies that are melted by energy weapons.
“If you melt an enemy and turn them into slime, that enemy will never respawn on the server again.”
He killed all the Yao Guais and the Mirelurk Queen in one place with an energy weapon and turned them into sludge. Afterwards, he checked back every hour. All non-melted enemies would have respawned.
The unfortunate mutant bears and the crustacean were still only present as piles of molten sludge.
Energy weapons apparently permanently remove enemies from the game! An absurdity in an MMO where multiple players share a server and everyone would like the chance for epic loot from rare enemies.
This is how players react: The announcement on Reddit regarding energy weapons was confirmed by several players:
- “I always feel really guilty when I use my plasma rifle because I know the next player who comes through will have fewer kills.”
- “That explains why half the clubhouse didn’t respawn yesterday. Just piles of damn slime everywhere!”
- “There’s a dedicated griefer who does this on purpose and kills every single enemy on the map like this!”
The melted monsters are said to only return after a server restart. Interestingly, this issue also occurred in Fallout 4. There, melted enemies were permanently dead and never returned.
Since a large part of the code from Fallout 4 was reused in Fallout 76, some players say that this “feature” has also carried over to the new game.
Nevertheless, fans hope that Bethesda will fix the problem soon so that it doesn’t ultimately lead to a point where no monsters are left in the world of Fallout.
