You can improve your skills and customize your playstyle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with various perks and abilities. However, a popular ability now has a significant drawback, as players have discovered.
What equipment is it about? Dead Silence is a field upgrade in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. You can use it in some of the pre-made loadouts or unlock it starting at level 30 to create your own classes with Dead Silence.
Dead Silence ensures that your footsteps are hardly audible. This is a huge advantage in Modern Warfare 2, as soldiers stomp much louder here than in most predecessors.
In a round, you can use the upgrade as soon as it has charged up. In the current beta of Modern Warfare 2, players have found out that Dead Silence can indeed give you away:
What is that noise? As seen and heard in the clip on reddit, a loud beep and static signal that Dead Silence has been activated. The enemy soldier immediately reacts, turns around, and takes the player out.
While you activate the upgrade, you are vulnerable for a short time and cannot shoot back. Since Dead Silence gives you away with a noise, activating it near enemies is basically a death sentence.
“Huge Problem with Dead Silence”
This is what players are saying: In several threads, players warn against using Dead Silence lightly. While the upgrade conceals your movement, it reveals your position upon activation. Some fans joke on reddit: “So much for the ‘silent’ part” and “But at least the death part works.” However, some players are quite annoyed by the decision:
Why? Just why? [Dead Silence] already has a long cooldown and a rather short duration if you don’t chain kills. But now you have to activate it a few seconds before contact with the enemy? Really… why?

Others argue that this is a method against rushers who can attack too strongly from the flanks and wipe teams out. The same goes for the removal of “Slide Cancelling”, which forces players into new techniques.
Aside from Dead Silence, the beta is receiving very positive feedback. There isn’t too much to complain about, the new Ground War even reminds fans of the “old Battlefield”. However, there are still some criticisms:
We have embedded the trailer for the current beta here for you:
How do I prevent my death? You should ideally use Dead Silence before engaging in a flanking attack and not during. If enemies are already nearby, you will only give yourself away.
Since the duration of Dead Silence extends when you get a kill, playing proactively pays off. Use the field upgrade best when a UAV is revealing enemies and take them out one by one from behind.
You should just be careful of enemies who play “as intended”, meaning holding angles for extended periods.
If you want to improve even further, be sure to set your sound and other options correctly. MeinMMO editor and CoD expert Maik Schneider has put together 10 settings that will improve you directly in Modern Warfare 2.
