Uber Uniques are the most coveted items in Diablo 4 – especially because they are so strong that they can significantly enhance any build. However, players are now warning against upgrading one of these items with the new upgrade system from Season 4, as a nasty bug could cost you millions.
Which item is it about?
- The Grandfather is probably the best two-handed sword in the game and belongs to the Uber Uniques in Diablo 4.
- The special thing about the sword is that it significantly increases critical damage, and the affixes on it can be better than on all other items.
- Actually, finding such an item is always a reason to rejoice, the Grandfather is among the rarest items in the game. However, at the moment it is causing despair.
This is what’s broken about the Grandfather: Season 4 has completely revamped the item system. You now have fewer affixes, but they are better, and there are some new features:
- Random affixes can become “major affixes” when finding legendaries or uniques, which are stronger than normal.
- Through the system of hardening and completion, you can forge and improve affixes on items.
- In the completion process, all affixes are strengthened, and a particular affix can be improved three times in total.
The Grandfather is, however, a special case. As an Uber Unique, it has fixed affixes that you cannot change. One of these affixes used to be the value “Indestructible.” This value no longer exists.
However, instead of removing it entirely, it seems to have been simply hidden – at least, that’s what the players suspect. This means: The value can appear both as a major affix and can be improved through completion – even though it can neither become stronger nor actually does anything.
“Recycle it, then at least you’ll get the template”
This specifically means that these systems are completely wasted on the item. Numerous users are currently warning about this on Reddit, advising against upgrading the Grandfather. They even suggest to some owners: Just shred them, then you’ll at least get the nice look.
If you are now a owner of a Grandfather, you don’t have to resort to such drastic measures immediately. The Uber Unique can still be used; it is and remains one of the best items in the game. If you want to test your luck, you can even try the completion:
- You have the chance to improve one of the affixes at completion levels 4, 8, and 12.
- If you hit indestructibility, you simply reset the item and try again.
- However, you should only do this if you really have a lot of crafting materials and gold. The last level of completion alone costs 10 million gold.
The bug is annoying, but fortunately affects only a few players, as the Grandfather is simply that rare. However, it is all the more frustrating when something like this happens.
With the new loot system, you have the opportunity to simply build really strong items yourself. Although Uber Uniques like Shako and Grandfather are still a bit better, you don’t necessarily need them for a strong build.
