During a press conference at the E3 2019, the studio Fatshark also made a guest appearance, the developers of Warhammer: Vermintide 2. They presented a PvP mode for the “Warhammer-Left4Dead” in a short trailer.
What kind of mode is this? During the PCGamer press conference at E3 2019, Fatshark introduced the “Versus” mode, a standalone PvP mode for Vermintide 2.
In “Versus”, four heroes from Ubersreik from the five known classes of Vermintide 2 play against four followers of the Dark Pact.
This is how the Versus mode works
How does a Versus game proceed? The roles of heroes and villains will alternate. A game consists of two rounds, where one team plays as heroes first and then as Chaos.
The games will likely take place in the familiar missions of Vermintide 2. The winner is the team that progresses the furthest in the mission. The goal of the Chaos players, therefore, is to stop the heroes.
Does Versus mix with the normal game? No, the Versus mode will be a standalone game mode. Players can choose whether to play PvP in Versus or prefer the classic PvE variant.
Which villains can I play? The trailer showed several special units of the Skaven rat folk that will likely be among the playable characters. These include:
- The Ratling Gunner (Gatling)
- The Gutter Runner (Assassin)
- The Poison Wind Globadier (Poison Gas Rat)
- The Packmaster (Hook Rat)
However, the FAQ for the Versus mode states that heroes from the Chaos followers will also be among the playable classes. This was reiterated in an interview with PCGamer.
This means that even the unsightly, fat Lifeleeches (cover image) and other Chaos mages could be in the mix. It could also be possible to play mini-bosses like the gigantic Rat Ogre.
How can I participate? Currently, Versus is in beta. You can register for it on the official website.
It also states that Versus will be a “standalone game mode” where owners of Vermintide 2 may receive some bonuses. So it may even be possible that you do not need to own the game.
There is no release date yet. However, the first expansion, Winds of Magic, will come in August 2019:
