A highlight of the Game Awards was the return of a short-lived franchise. The original ‘Warhammer 40k: Space Marine’ finally gets a part 2.
The Warhammer games hold a special place for fans. Few other universes are as dark and brutal as Warhammer 40k. It has been over 10 years since Warhammer 40k released ‘Space Marine’, a shooter that focused on the iconic characters of Warhammer – the Space Marines.
Now, the second part has been announced at the Game Awards, along with a trailer that Warhammer fans will surely enjoy.
What is Space Marine 2 about? Although the exact story is not yet known, the narrative is likely set after the first Space Marine game. Captain Titus of the Ultramarines is back – he is once again the protagonist that you guide through the levels.
The main antagonist in Space Marine 2 this time are the Tyranids – one of the insect-like alien races in the Warhammer universe, which love to spread and threaten humans. It goes without saying that some decent Space Marines are needed to show this ‘Xenos scum’ the superiority of the human species and bring them the glory of the God-Emperor.
Will there also be a multiplayer? The original ‘Space Marine’ had a quite popular multiplayer mode, where players could prove to each other with bolter weapons and swords who best serves the God-Emperor. Since the campaign back then was quite short, the long-term motivation definitely lay in the entertaining multiplayer, which worked in the best deathmatch style.
Whether Space Marine 2 will also have a multiplayer mode is not yet clear – but it would likely be a waste if players can’t also whack each other with chainsaw swords.
On which platforms will Space Marine 2 be released? According to current plans, Space Marine 2 is set to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
