Many fans have been waiting a long time for an MMO in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. With Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade, this wish comes true.
Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade is not an MMORPG; it is more comparable to PlanetSide 2. You belong to one of several factions, including the Space Marines of the Imperium, the Orks, the Eldar, and the Chaos Space Marines.
You land on a planet and fight in an extended campaign together with other players for control of this world. From orbit, you plan your strategy and execute it on the surface or even beneath it. When the campaign is over, you move on to the next planet. This is how each faction attempts to bring as many worlds under its control as possible.
The Alpha Begins!
On September 14, the online shooter will enter Closed Alpha. Those who possess a Captain’s-Pack founder’s pack can participate in this Alpha and get a first look at the game. It should be noted that not all elements are integrated yet. The battles are initially limited to a few participants, and the “MMO aspect” will only be added later. Just like the metagame, the fight for territories and the conquest of worlds. Fortresses with various game modes as well as different biomes and landscape types will also be added later by the developers.
The first phase of the Closed Alpha is intended to optimize the shooter features, so that the other functions can be added gradually. Therefore, the Alpha will last a little longer before it eventually transitions into a Beta. The developers promise that there will be massive battles in open game worlds at release. Additionally, you will also fight in PvE battles against monsters like the Tyranids. The developers state that the Alpha will launch a bit later than originally planned. It was supposed to start in the summer. However, the switch to Unreal Engine 4 and some restructuring within the team led to this delay. But now it will finally be ready on September 14. The Beta is not expected before 2016.
If you have always wished to participate in mass battles in the grim Warhammer 40K universe in a PlanetSide 2-like online shooter, you should keep an eye on Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade.
