Warframe will receive a major update in the near future. With Heart of Deimos, a new open-world area is not only being added to the game, but also a new gameplay mechanic for the Warframes.
What is Helminth? Helminth is a creature that is both mysterious and disgusting. It is a kind of parasite that has nested on your ship in Warframe, infesting an entire room where it now slumbers.
With the Heart of Deimos expansion, your Helminth will receive a new function that takes Warframe customization to a new level. Helminth grows and gains the ability to consume your Warframes.
Why should I feed Warframes to it? You can utilize Helminth’s insatiable hunger to your advantage. When the monster devours one of your Warframes, it also absorbs their powers.
Helminth can store one ability from each devoured Warframe. It can then transfer this ability to any other Warframe. Here’s how it works:
- If you feed the Warframe Volt to Helminth, the monster can absorb the “Shock” ability from it.
- Then, you select a Warframe that should receive this ability.
- To obtain Shock, however, your target Warframe must give up one of its own abilities to make room.
- For example, you could remove the Pull ability from the Warframe Mag.
- If you have modified the Shock ability from Volt, you can also carry those modifications over to a new Warframe.
This does not mean that you will lose Pull forever. Each Warframe has 3 different skill configurations available for you to adjust. This means you can remove Pull on the first configuration while still keeping it on the second.
Alternatively, you can also choose an ability that belongs to Helminth itself and does not originate from a Warframe. The choice is yours.
A deep intervention in the abilities of Warframes was not possible until now, and the system is intended to provide players with a completely new level of customization for their frames.
What are the limitations? Naturally, Helminth will not be swapping the abilities of Warframes just because it likes you. To transfer skills, you need to keep the monster well-fed.
To maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle, you must provide it with various types of food that cater to its needs. The food must be acquired in advance.
Moreover, Helminth can only transfer one specific ability to a Warframe at a time. This ability is predetermined by the game. This means that Volt cannot contribute any skill other than Shock.
Also, ultimate abilities cannot be transferred from one Warframe to another. Thus, you cannot randomly mix various skills to create a super-frame.
New Open-World Area on Deimos
In addition to the new Helminth system, the “Heart of Deimos” expansion will also introduce a new area. This is Deimos, the smaller of the two moons of Mars.
Something dark and evil is happening there. You follow a distress signal that leads you to Deimos. Upon landing, you notice that everything there has been infested by a plague. It is up to you to find out what happened there and how to stop the plague.
What to expect in Heart of Deimos: At the center of the expansion stands the faction of the Infested and the once powerful Entrati family. The Infested are the third faction of Warframe, which has received little spotlight until now. This will change in Heart of Deimos.
The new update brings the now third open-world area of Warframe. You will be able to explore the surface and interior of Deimos, which are completely infested by the plague. On the moon, you can expect:
- A new story arc centered around the Infested
- Fighting the Infested, who will be transported by drop pods and will attack you on the map
- A day-night cycle that affects the activity of the Infested on the map
- Open-world activities like fishing or catching small animals
- Repair and a large customization system for Necramechs, which you can control in battle instead of your Warframes.
- New syndicates that are native to Deimos.
- Exploration of the underground of Deimos, which offers procedurally generated dungeons.
- New Warframe “Broken Frame,” designed by the community
The area will be available together with the planet Mars, which can be entered relatively early in the game. This means that new players can quickly dive into Heart of Deimos if they wish.
For experienced Tenno, the area will include fights and enemies that scale with their level.
What is different compared to before? Deimos is now the third open-world area of Warframe. Here, the developers wanted to try a different approach.
Plains of Eidolon on Earth was the first test. With Fortuna, the team wanted to see how large they could make their open-world area. Deimos was designed to be compact and dense based on player feedback.
The area is meant to evoke a claustrophobic and uncomfortable feeling in players, primarily conveyed through the plague and the Infested. A lot of emphasis has been placed on verticality, both outdoors on the map and in the underground cave system.
When does Heart of Deimos release? The Infested will not keep you waiting long. Starting August 25, you will be able to go wild on Deimos.
Heart of Deimos will also be the first major update to be released on all platforms simultaneously.
