PC players of the third-person shooter Warframe can now download the new expansion of the free-to-play game. The add-on brings some novelties to the game and makes it a streamlined Destiny variant for PC players.
Social Hubs for MMO Feeling
With the expansion, the Orbiter Relays come into play. These are gathering spots for the 14 million Warframe players as stated by the manufacturer. Here, the Tenno peacefully engage in their activities or set out on an exploration tour. The relays are thus a completely new element of the third-person shooter and make Warframe more social and role-play oriented. Chatting, trading, and fighting together in a futuristic setting – it almost sounds like Destiny, right?
Artifacts, Slaves, and Upcoming Opening
At the Orbiter Relays, players can find not only fellow beings but also new NPCs offering various things. For instance, the Void Trader Baro Ki’Teer sells artifacts for Ducats. However, the NPC is not always there, as he regularly changes his location…Xur sends his regards. Reputation can now also be improved in the relays. To do so, you just need to visit one of the Syndicate leaders who are located in the new spaces. Here you can trade your Medallions from the Syndicate missions and receive a reputation boost. Additionally, there are Augment mods at the Syndicates that optimize your Warframe. By the way, Darvo’s Market hasn’t opened yet. The Corpus trader is taking his time and will likely open the store soon.
Shooter meets MMO
With this update, Warframe takes a major step towards MMO. Player interaction is increasingly put at the forefront, even if some elements of the update strongly resemble Destiny features. No problem – at least the seasoned PC player knows Destiny only from the Mein-MMO news. The expansion is currently only available on PC and is being tested there. The rollout to consoles has so far been very limited. On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, only Prime Access supporters, PC-found users with a migrated account, or Tenno with a mastery rank of at least ten have access.
Players who are hopefully waiting for a PC release of Destiny should check out Warframe. The futuristic setting throws you into exciting shooter action with friends, acquaintances, or strangers. With the introduction of the Orbiter Relays, some MMO elements are also added – it’s definitely worth a try. In our list of the best free-to-play online shooters, the title made it into the top 3.
