The New War is the latest expansion of Warframe. After the release on December 15, it quickly captivated the community. Now the Warframe developers promise that 2022 has more in store.
When the MeinMMO editorial team was allowed to take a deeper look at the latest Warframe expansion The New War in advance, we had the impression: It sounds like something akin to Warframe 2.0 will come after “The New War”. The latest announcements from Warframe developer Digital Extremes seemingly confirm this impression.
What do the developers say? In a post on the official Warframe forum, Director Steven Sinclair addressed a message to the community. This was not only a thank you to the fans at the end of the year but also a brief summary of the reactions to the latest expansion. In this entry, Steve Sinclair also gave a preview of the year 2022 for Warframe.
We did it. Thank you for making The New War our biggest story update ever. I’m so glad for your reactions and grateful for your patience and enthusiasm. […] If you have played the expansion, you know that many crazy things were in the lineup. […]
I have seen many statements along the lines of “I wish this gameplay would stay” and we share this view, so there will be a few more experiments that will bring variety to the game in ways that are not just quest-driven.
We dedicated our Update 31: The New War solely to the quest because it is so extensive, and we dedicate 2022 to what’s coming next: a year where we do only the right things for Warframe.

This statement is not a concrete roadmap for future plans, but a clear indication
What can Warframe players expect in 2022? This statement from the developer is quite vague in itself. However, players who have completed The New War should have a clear idea of what is meant. While this is not a roadmap in the classic sense, it is a clear indication of what could come.
We will avoid spoilers here, but even the marketing of The New War has already presented some unique storytelling methods and gameplay possibilities of the expansion. These include new playable perspectives and action-free classroom scenes.
In 2022, Digital Extremes seems to want to continue in this direction. Given the very positive response to the latest expansion, this statement should delight Warframe fans.
The unofficial Warframe 2.0, which The New War has likely initiated, apparently continues to take shape. If you have not played the expansion yet and are curious, we recommend our overview:
