In Warframe there are raids called “Trials” for up to 8 players. But not for long. The developers at Digital Extremes want to remove the raids from the game for the foreseeable future. Many players are not happy about that!
For well-equipped endgame players in Warframe, the so-called Trials have existed since 2015. In these, up to 8 players had to survive tough battles, brutal bosses, and tricky puzzles. As a reward, there were the coveted “Arcanes”. These are special upgrade components for equipment that provide unique situational bonuses, such as more damage after headshots or group healing through power-ups.
Raids were therefore extremely lucrative. However, they also had their problems.
Trials are hard to access and cumbersome
The Trials were only achievable for particularly strong players. The enemies were of level 100 and mercilessly mowed down careless and suboptimally equipped Tenno. Those who did not engage deeply with the game mechanics and did not have optimal gear had no chance there.
Furthermore, it was tricky to assemble a team of 8 such professionals with top gear. The raids were therefore anything but accessible, and many players never saw or completed one. Those who still wanted Arcanes had to buy them from raiders, often for the real money exchange currency Platinum.
Trials out, Eidolons in!
The developers wanted to make the raids more accessible for a long time so that less hardcore players could benefit as well. However, they have not yet come up with a good solution.
But there is a “workaround.” The Arcanes are supposed to be dropped by the Eidolons on the Plains of Eidolon soon. A successful kill of an Eidolon is said to be as exciting as a raid but more accessible.
Therefore, the raids will initially be completely removed from the game. However, the developers emphasize that this will only be temporary. Once the raids have been appropriately revised, they are meant to return.
Why do the raids have to go?
Certainly, the players of Warframe are largely enraged about this! They do not understand why the raids are now being completely removed from the game. They could have kept them in Warframe and still introduced the Arcane loot from the Eidolons.
Despite the adversities, many players wanted to help other Warframe fans with the raids. Even a dedicated Discord channel with over 14,000 members called “Raid School Bus” was created to explain the raids to newcomers. This will soon all be for the Space Cat.
Players do not trust the developers
Furthermore, there are fears that the Trials will go the same way as the Dark Sector conquest. In this feature, clans could conquer areas and then demand taxes if another player wanted to play there.
However, the Dark Sector conquest was also put on hold years ago due to exploits, and since then, nothing has changed there.
Not everyone is against it
Not every player is angry. Some players welcome Digital Extremes’ decision and look forward to finally getting Arcanes without having to pay Platinum for them.
The raids are supposed to remain in the game until February 28. After that, it will be over for now.
Another stir in the community: 9 Warframes are set to be changed in 2018.
