The development studio Digital Extremes announced that the popular online game Warframe will receive a slimming makeover, which will also bring an aesthetic enhancement.
What did the developers announce? Warframe is too large. Therefore, after the major expansion Heart of Deimos, updates will be made to reduce the installation size. Additionally, a new texture compression technology will be employed, allowing for better visuals even as file sizes shrink.
By how much will Warframe be smaller? The first update is set to release next week for PC and will reduce the game’s size by 6.6 GB. However, you will need to download an update of 6.5 GB first. Following this, there will be more updates by the end of the year, freeing up a total of 15 GB of disk space. Currently, the game occupies between 30 GB and approximately 48 GB depending on the system.
According to Digital Extremes, not only the PC version will benefit; most other platforms will also undergo this slimming treatment. The studio has not yet revealed when exactly this will happen or which specific platforms are involved.
Players have no more space for Warframe
Why is this necessary? According to the developers, the highly successful Warframe has grown so large over the past 8 years that some players can no longer install the online game on smaller SSDs and have to switch to slower HDDs, leading to longer loading times.
In order for players to continue installing Warframe on fast SSDs and enjoy short loading times, this slimming makeover is now taking place.
Why will Warframe also look better at the same time? The developers are using a new technology called Oodle Texture to re-save the textures in the game. This makes the files smaller, but the quality of the textures will be higher than before. This means that the new compression method is more effective than the current one.
You will see prettier textures in the game. But that’s not all. The lightmaps in the game will also be revised. These have been modified to make lights in the game look even better. Additionally, there will be an optimization of the so-called normal maps, which provide depth structure.
Overall, these revisions should visibly enhance Warframe visually.
