If you think of Warframe, you surely have science fiction and space ninjas in mind, but the new expansion will take you back to the 90s.
What kind of DLC will this be? The next big expansion is called “Warframe 1999” and breaks away from the setting we have been accustomed to in Warframe for over 10 years. Instead of space ninjas in a distant future, this DLC introduces us to “Arthur”, a rustic hero in a leather outfit, wielding a weapon that suspiciously resembles an AK-47.
Arthur is a so-called Protoframe, resembling the Warframe “Excalibur” and makes his first appearance during the story of “Whispers in the Walls” – the major expansion released in December 2023.
In Warframe 1999, you will travel to the past and find yourself on Earth in the year 1999. As Arthur, you will team up with six other Protoframes to track down Dr. Albrecht Entrati.
When will Warframe: 1999 be released? While an exact release date is not yet known for Warframe: 1999, the expansion is expected to be released in winter 2024.

What distinguishes this expansion: Warframe: 1999 is very different from what you have known from Warframe so far. The entire setting screams 90s and creates a completely new Warframe experience.
There are:
- a typical 90s boy band
- a retro instant messenger system through which you can build relationships with six Protoframes
- a motorcycle called Atomicyle, which you can actually ride
Additionally, there will be a new Warframe named “Cyte-09” who has sniper skills and will support you as a sniper even in 1999.
Prologue quest to 1999 playable in August
What kind of quest is this? You can already play the introduction to the upcoming expansion in August 2024. The prologue quest is titled “The Lotus Eater” and takes place after the events of Whispers in the Walls.
In addition to the prologue quest, starting in August, the Heirloom skins for Ember and Rhino will be permanently available for purchase. Sevagoth Prime will also be released.
