The coop shooter Warframe is getting a major open-world update with the Plains of Eidolon at the end of the year. The bosses in it are enormous monsters reminiscent of the Kaijus from Pacific Rim.
Warframe, the futuristic online coop shooter by Digital Extremes, will receive the long-awaited open-world update with the “Plains of Eidolon” at the end of 2017. In it, you can expect not only an open world full of NPCs, story and quests. There are even world bosses that are gigantic.
Warframe – Eidolons will be huge and hard to kill
In the Plains of Eidolon, the titular monsters will appear repeatedly. The Eidolon are terrifying creatures created by the “Sentients” to annihilate the Tenno. Therefore, they are truly huge. In an interview with PC Gamer, Live Ops and Community Producer Rebecca Ford (the voice of Lotus in the game) commented on what the Eidolon are about.
According to Ford, the Eidolon are about 10 stories tall. Therefore, they were also internally referred to as “Kaijus”, just like the giant creatures from the action blockbuster Pacific Rim. Additionally, the colossal monsters from the old Godzilla movies were referred to as Kaijus. As befits such a giant beast, you can’t just take it down.
Warframe – Monster kill requires teamwork
Rather, you need to regularly separate from your Warframe and head out as a human (and much weaker) Operator to make the Eidolon vulnerable with its special powers. Only then can you switch back to the Warframe and give the beast a few punches.
Plains of Eidolon – Open world with a day-night cycle
Also new in Plains of Eidolon will be a dynamic day-night cycle. However, it’s more than just a nice graphics gag. Rather, the time of day will influence your gameplay.
During the day, Warframe in the open world is the usual slaughter of the Tenno against their weak enemies. However, at night, the veteran mode starts, and inexperienced players should better retreat to the safety of the cities.
