The latest update of the free-to-play sci-fi shooter Warframe, Sand of Inaros, is now available for PC Tenno. What content update 18.5 brings besides sand, cats, and mummies, we have summarized for you.
Sun, Sand, and Slavery
The year 2016 is still young, as the developer of the online shooter Warframe, Digital Extremes, sends us back to ancient Egypt with their next major expansion, “Sand of Inaros”. To a time when god-like pharaohs ruled and enslaved people, in tombs surrounded by legends and cursed, on a journey to a long-lost era.
Thematically, the current update leans on the myths and legends of ancient Egypt. So, it is not surprising that the long-awaited Kavats, new cat-like enemies, are introduced with this expansion.
Inaros – Master of Sand
With Inaros, a new playable character, you will become acquainted in a quest and win him for your collection. This mummy-like Warframe masters sand and is able to drain life from his enemies. He needs it, as he has no protective shield like all other characters, relying solely on his health.
Inaros’ abilities at a glance:
- Drying – Destroys enemies with a curse-laden wave of sand that blinds them and robs them of health.
- Devour – Causes enemies to sink into quicksand, holding and consuming them there. Also robs health and creates a friendly sand shadow.
- Sandstorm – A swirling sand spiral sweeps away or consumes enemies caught in quicksand.
- Scarabs Swarm – Transforms health into hardened scarab armor. Enemies can be swept away with a swarm of scarabs. Survivors use their own life force to heal allies.
New Weapons
Of course, you can also stock up your arsenal with new infested weapons. These include:
- Lesion – A staff for relentless damage.
- Mutalist Cernos – The arrows of this bow spread contagious diseases on every surface.
- Dual Toxocyst – Fires toxic ammunition in rapid succession on headshots.
Reactor Sabotage 2.0
The Sabotage mode on Grineer and Corpus ships now offers you more options on how you want to send your enemies to their death. You can for example circumvent or disable new security systems and choose whether to freeze or explode the ship’s energy core, each changing your surroundings.
Of course, you can still sweep through the level like a sandstorm or eliminate enemies silently and secretly like an invisible curse. A total of 6 new environments have been added for Corpus and Grineer ships.
More Missions on the Moon
And since we are already talking about new environments, let’s continue with the Orokin moon, which has received a total of 20 new rooms. The three previous mission types Interception, Survival, and Mobile Defense are now joined by Defense, Capture, and Espionage. Especially the latter will present you with new challenges, as you will have to prove your parkour skills and manipulate time. In doing so, you must switch at the right moment between the decayed moon environment and that of the old glorious days to successfully master this espionage.
Cosmetic and Technical Changes
For those who want to give their Warframe a new look for spring, there are two new Syandanas to look forward to, one of which is Conclave-exclusive. And for those who still have space in their Orbiter, there is a new landing ship, the Xiphos. With this, you can call for turret support during missions.
Furthermore, the update brings an overhaul of the chat system. You now have various emojis available to communicate with others. An important aspect from a technical perspective is the change in lighting and various graphical advancements made over the past months.
After downloading this update, which is over 4 GB in size for this reason, Warframe will shine in new detail richness and appear more vibrant, according to Game Director Steve Sinclair in the Warframe Forum.
