In Devstream 109 of Warframe the new mission “Sanctuary Onslaught” was discussed, which will be linked to the release of the cat lady Khora. Additionally, Khora’s new skills and strange, floral mods were introduced. The UI and the pet system are also set to be completely overhauled.
Update April 18: Digital Extremes has now confirmed that Khora will be coming to Warframe this week.
In Warframe’s Devstream 109 (link leads to YouTube), among other things, the long-overdue cat lady Khora was discussed. The new Warframe was meant to be in the game a long time ago, but received a rework before the release. Her new abilities and the mission where you receive her with a whip were introduced. In the new mission, you’ll also be able to grab some pretty strange and almost delightfully silly mods.
Another major point was the planned overhaul of the entire user interface, especially the user-friendliness is to be improved. The faithful pets of the space ninjas are also set to receive a significant renewal, referred to as Pets 2.0.

Mode “Sanctuary Onslaught” may be coming as early as next week – With it Khora?
Warframe is getting a new game mode that will be linked to the Void and Cephalon Simaris. Cephalon Simaris is an AI construct, where you receive unique items and live in the so-called Sanctuary .
Lead developer Steve Sinclair mentioned in the stream that they are aiming for the release of the new mode next week (April 16 – 22).
The stream also revealed that you will receive the parts to build Khora in this new mission. Khora was captured by Cephalon Simaris and you have to rescue her from the Sanctuary. So Khora could appear as early as next week, but this is not yet officially confirmed.
This is how the new survival mode will work:
- You have 2 minutes to defeat a wave of enemies while the life support systems fail
- Collect Void Stabilizers scattered throughout the map and maintain the Void stability to survive
- After 2 minutes, a portal opens, throwing you into a random room with increased difficulty and instability
- At the start of each wave (after the first), you receive a 45-second focus bonus. The percentage increases with each wave.
- The more enemies you kill, the more you will gain from the mission
- There will be an increased “challenge mode” that also raises the focus reward
Strange “Peculiar Mods” – Have no usefulness, but are funny
One of the rewards from “Sanctuary Onslaught” will be the “Peculiar Mods,” which roughly translates to bizarre or curious mods. Normally, modifications in Warframe help your space ninjas become stronger. Increased damage, more range, or energy are the mantra.
However, the “Peculiar Mods” are supposed to trigger a useless and bizarre effect when certain conditions are met. During the stream, flowers were presented that grow from enemies’ bodies when they are critically hit.

Khora’s new abilities: Throw enemies into the air and strangle them
Khora was originally supposed to switch between the three physical damage types that Warframe has with her skills. However, this feature has been thrown out and replaced with other skills.
With this skill set, Khora and her cat Vetinari will now enter battle:
- Ability 1 – “Whipclaw”: Khora’s whip triggers an AOE attack. The whip can be equipped with melee mods.
- Ability 2 – “Ensnare“: Pins enemies down and simultaneously pulls in other enemies nearby Khora.
- Ability 3 – “Call Vetinari”: Vetinari is Khora’s own Kavat, summoned with this skill. The cat will be able to switch between three modes in which it either attacks, defends, or heals the team. Players trigger the switch themselves.
- Ability 4 – “Strangledome” – This skill throws enemies into the air, where they remain pinned and take continuous damage.
The idea of being able to switch between different modes is thus further pursued in the cat Vetinari, making Khora flexible in her usability. The name “Strangledome” serves as a placeholder for the ultimate ability.

“Too many beginners quit because of a cumbersome UI” – Adjustments are necessary
According to lead developer Steve Sinclair, many beginners quit playing Warframe because they do not understand the cumbersome user interface. The online shooter has been around for 5 years and the menus no longer follow a straight line.
Overall, the UI is to be made simpler and ensure better clarity at a point. In the future, you will also have the option to customize the UI to your taste. For example, you can select the color of the menus. You can find more concepts for a new user interface in this Imgur album. The presented concepts are not yet set in stone and may change.

Pets 2.0 – Slaughtering packs of dogs to steal their puppies is kind of antiquated
The faithful and beloved pets of Warframe are also set to receive a complete overhaul. The ways you get the little ones and their modifications are set to change in the future.
Dog lovers currently have to slaughter a pack of wild dogs and destroy their dens to get a puppy themselves. Because the dens contain the eggs of the animals, which they defend with all their might. Digital Extremes found this a bit strange if you actually like dogs and want them as companions.
In this context, Digital Extremes also introduced some cosmetics for the Moa that will soon be available as animal companions in the game. Who hasn’t always wanted a little robot with a top hat?

What else was interesting about Devstream 109?
Here are some other interesting points from the Devstream:
- TennoGen Round 12 – There will be new fan-created skins that you can see in the official Warframe forum.
- Scythes will be reworked together with a melee rework
- You will soon be able to regulate the light in the dojo
- Umbra remains a mystery! There will be no information about the new Warframe in Devstreams before he is released
- New vehicles for Venus: The new open-world map on Venus will be industrial and styled like Cyberpunk. There is supposed to be a road network along with new vehicles that you can use.

What do you think of Khora’s new skills and Digital Extremes’ plans?
