Warframe is getting a major update this week. We show you what to expect in “The Old Peace.”
What is “The Old Peace?” This is the latest free expansion for Warframe, continuing the story of the loot shooter. Players will also gain access to new modes as well as a new Warframe.
When is the update release? Warframe: The Old Peace will launch on December 10, 2025. The update is scheduled to start at 5:00 PM.
A glance into a dark past
What is the expansion about? Warframe takes a look into the past with “The Old Peace,” reflecting on a war long fought between the Orokin and the Sentients.
You’ll discover what happened to the Tau system and how the Sentient conflict arose. Here you delve into your own memories and relive what your character experienced during this war – including a fight against a colossal war machine of the Sentients.
The story and world design of the update follow a clear thread that explores the theme of war and hell. In addition to the new devilish Warframe Uriel, there will be a fitting hellish sound and skybox design, where the sci-fi setting of Warframe meets a dark fantasy atmosphere like in Diablo.
New Warframe, Gyre Prime, and New Modes
These are the highlights of the update: The Old Peace comes with a range of highlights to look forward to on December 10. Here’s a rough overview:
- new story quest for “The Old Peace”
- new Warframe “Uriel”
- new weapon class: Bayonet
- Update of the “Focus Schools”: Introduction of Tauron Strikes (new ultimate abilities) performed with powerful new weapons
- 2 new game modes: “The Perita Rebellion” and “Descendia”
- new skip function: You can now skip the update’s story quest and play the new game modes directly if you don’t want to engage in the campaign
- Gyre Prime
This is what the new Warframe Uriel can do: Uriel is entirely dedicated to the themes of devils, demons, and hell. Accordingly, he comes with a passive ability that summons his own demon minions to fight for him. These demons act entirely independently and have their own abilities.
Of course, Uriel has his own abilities that you can use in combat:
- Ability 1 (Infernalis): This ability creates a fire aura around Uriel and allows him to fly through the air like a flaming meteor.
- Ability 2: Cleanses Uriel from status effects and heals him and his demons. If a demon dies, it is revived by this ability.
- Ability 3: Uriel tears out the souls of his demons and hurls them in search of new victims. The souls explode upon contact with an enemy, causing damage vulnerability. When Infernalis is active, its fire effect also transfers to the souls of the demons, igniting enemies.
- Ability 4: Uriel’s interactions with his demons fill up the bar in his HUD. Once charged, Uriel can unleash his fourth ability. This sets the entire room ablaze, causing every enemy in the area to ignite and die.
Here’s what the new game modes are like: In “The Old Peace,” there will be 2 new game modes to grind: “The Perita Rebellion” and “Descendia”
In “The Perita Rebellion,” you have 12 minutes to fulfill as many objectives as possible, as each fulfilled objective grants your Warframe special buffs that strengthen you for the final boss fight at the end of the 12 minutes.
“Descendia” is a type of roguelite mode that will be part of the weekly rotation where you must overcome different floors of a tower. You start at the top and descend up to 21 floors. Each floor holds new enemies, including bosses.
What do you need to do to play “The Old Peace?” If you only want to play the new modes or the new Warframe “Uriel,” you don’t need to make any major preparations before the expansion launches.
However, if you want to experience the campaign of “The Old Peace,” you must reach a specific point in the story of Warframe first. So complete at least the quest “The Lot-Phages” and preceding quests before December 10, 2025. You can check your story progress in the quest guide on the official Warframe website. Depending on when you last played, it may take several hours to progress far enough in the story.
