The SF coop shooter Warframe was worried years ago when it first saw Destiny. But the new game Anthem is met with calmness.
Warframe is currently hosting TennoCon, its own trade show. This provides an opportunity for interviews. In a conversation with PcGamesN, Community Producer Rebecca Ford talked about Warframe’s competitors from AAA publishers.
Warframe is often compared to Destiny . The new BioWare game “Anthem” features Exo-suits and reminded many of Warframe when it was presented at E3. What does Digital Extremes think about the competition?
There’s always fear when you see a potential rival
This is now the second time that they have noticed the “twin syndrome” and thought: “Oh no, another SF coop game,” Ford tells.
When they first saw Destiny back then, they were scared. You always get scared when you spot a potential rival, says Ford.
Science fiction is in, you should play it
Now with Anthem, they are looking at the situation more calmly. Yes, even the Digital Extremes staff have noticed that there are similarities between Anthem and Warframe, but they are not worried.
Ford says: “When I saw it, it looked different enough from us that our target audience will understand that science fiction is in right now, and you should play as much science fiction as you want. Once someone has tasted science fiction, they want more of it.”
Those who like Anthem will also hear about Warframe. And those who like Warframe will also like Anthem, thinks Ford. This competition helps each other. According to Ford’s experience, this is always a good experience for the community.
If the community gets lost in a world they love, it’s good. Whether it’s the world of Warframe or another one.
