The new and gigantic open-world map on Venus was revealed for Warframe at TennoCon 2018: The Orb Vallis. The large expansion will be called “Fortuna.” Read here everything about the release, content, and learn more about the new faction “Solaris” and the Pokémon system.
What is Fortuna? Fortuna will be a major content update for Warframe. The DLC brings a huge open world to the online shooter on Venus. The expansion also introduces a new faction: Solaris United.
Fortuna adds a lot of new content to Warframe:
- You will become beast hunters,
- there are new raid bosses,
- you can fly through the open world on hoverboards.
When is the release of Fortuna? Digital Extremes announced that the Fortuna update will arrive for Warframe in November 2018.
The new open world will be gigantic
The Orb Vallis will be so large that the Plains of Eidolon would only fit in the entrance of the map: In 2017, Digital Extremes released Warframe’s first open-world map, the Plains of Eidolon. The new open world “The Orb Vallis” will far exceed the Plains in size.
The map is icy and filled with plants that resemble an underwater world. Gigantic mushrooms sprout from the ground, mountains stretch across the landscape, and ancient Orokin structures remind of a long-forgotten civilization. You will encounter rare life forms here.
Players take on quests in an underground colony: You will find a colony called Fortuna underground on The Orb Vallis, where the Solaris faction lives. Fortuna will be the new hub, comparable to the bazaar in Cetus on the Plains. Here you will complete quests for the Solaris and try to gain their trust. For that, you will earn standing with Solaris United.
Fortuna’s key features at a glance
The new faction, Solaris United: The Solaris United are cyborgs. They live in a worker colony to serve the Corpus. The Corpus are a major industrial faction in Warframe. The Solaris are deeply in debt to the Corpus, which is why they must constantly work. They live in Fortuna, a city underground that serves as a coolant factory. However, Solaris United wants to resist the Corpus, and you will help them as a Tenno.
New raid bosses, the spider bots: In the Plains of Eidolon, there are the giant Eidolon machines, which function like raid bosses. On The Orb Vallis, there will also be huge enemies with boss mechanics. You will encounter robotic spiders in various sizes and shapes here.
There will be strongholds that can be captured: There are various bases on The Orb Vallis that you can occupy. Each time you leave the open world, the status of the strongholds will reset. Therefore, you can retake them with each visit.
Catching animals creates a new mechanic
Catch all Pokémon from Orb Vallis! In the new open world, you will find rare animals everywhere. The animals are endangered because the Corpus abuse them for experiments. You will need to mimic the calls of the animals to attract them. This will be a completely new mechanic in Warframe. If you manage to catch the animals, you save them from the Corpus and take them to a safe place.
Get on a hoverboard and explore Orb Vallis in style! With the hoverboard, you glide across the open world. You can perform stunts with the boards. The hoverboards will also be part of FashionFrame. They are visually customizable and will also receive skins. Archwings will still exist.
Codename: Railjack – Command large battle spaceships and experience battles
Become a combat pilot, steer a spaceship and engage in battles: You will be able to steer battle spaceships from Venus. With 1-4 players, you will be out in the universe fighting. Initially, you will be fighting against computer-controlled opponents in PvE. Digital Extremes, however, does not rule out PvP battles for the future.
Railjack at a later date: As Digital Extremes mentioned at TennoCon, the battle ships will be part of the entire Fortuna and Orb Vallis complex. This feature is still in early development and will be released later with a separate update.
Here are the key features from Codename: Railjack:
- Fly seamlessly through the universe: You can fly into space directly from Fortuna
- Coordinate your space crew: You must ensure that your ship is shielded; sometimes repairs will be needed, and you will have to wait with guns.
- Archwing attack: You can fly out with your Archwings directly from the battle spaceship. This way, you can agilely fly around enemy ships and destroy their cannons.
New story teased: The New War
Digital Extremes showed a teaser for the new story update. This follows directly after “The Sacrifice.” The teaser showed Lotus as a sentient machine, and the story seems to be heading in a really dark direction.
