For many PC gamers, Discord has been indispensable for some time now. Since the beginning of the year, the communication tool can also be linked with the PS4 and PS5. However, the most important feature has been missing so far: voice chat. Now there are finally hints that this could come soon.
Since January 31, it has been possible to link your Discord account with your PSN account (via PlayStation.com). This allows you to display on Discord what game you’re currently playing. This can help you find fellow players who are currently playing the same game and is especially useful for crossplay games.
However, the most important feature of Discord – voice chat – has not been possible on PlayStation until now. However, there are now first indications that this could finally change soon.
Discord Voice Chat on the PS5
What are these hints? On October 23, screenshots from the mobile app of an American Discord user appeared on Reddit and Twitter, showing the integration of voice chat for the PS5 for the first time.
With the new feature, it will finally be possible to seamlessly continue your Discord call from your PC or mobile app on the PS5. However, it is not clear from the screenshots whether you can also start these directly from your PS5.
It is already clear, however, that the feature will unfortunately not be possible for the PS4. While this is unfortunate, it is also understandable, as the console does have its issues with multitasking.
The Discord voice chat will not replace PlayStation’s original party and voice chat function but will be available in addition to it.

The Discord voice chat for PlayStation is long overdue
When is the feature coming? Since the Discord voice chat for the PS5 is still in a testing phase, it is not yet clear when the feature will finally be available for everyone. As of today, October 24, the beta of the new function was still not available in Germany.
For some time now, the implementation of this feature has been a major wish of the community. The fact that it has taken this long is especially disappointing, as Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated at the beginning of the partnership between Sony and Discord in May 2021:
Our goal is to closely link the Discord and PlayStation experiences on console and mobile devices starting early next year, so that friends, groups, and communities can meet, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.

On the Xbox, it has been possible for some time to use Discord’s voice chat. The feature is also very popular there, which is why we hope that the implementation for the PS5 will go as smoothly.
Here, a beta update was initially rolled out for Xbox insiders and later made available to everyone.
