If you want to play earlier, you have to pay. This is also the case with the online shooter Warface. If you want to be part of the now started Early Access, you need to purchase a founder’s package, even though Warface is actually a Free2Play title.
Crytek’s online shooter Warface is also coming to Xbox One. Officially, it’s only in October, but those who pay can start right now.

The online shooter on Xbox One
What is Warface? Warface is an online shooter developed by Crytek. The PC version has been playable since 2013, and this month the version for PS4 was released. The release for Xbox One is also planned for October 9.
You can play Warface either in PvP against other players or cooperatively against AI. In PvP, you can expect six game modes, including Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and even Battle Royale in the future.
Early Access costs money
A paid Early Access: Warface is basically a Free2Play shooter. If you play on Xbox One from October 9, you don’t have to pay anything. However, if you want to get in earlier, this is only possible if you purchase one of the paid founder’s packages.
What founder’s packages are available? You can choose from four class packages, each costing 24.99 euros and besides immediate access to Early Access, include the following:
- Engineer: You get the submachine gun Magpul FMG-9 and receive the gold version. Additionally, you receive the skin “Engineer of the Paragon Squad” and 300 credits
- Sniper: The package includes the sniper rifle Remington R11 RSASS and the gold version, as well as the skin “Sniper of the Paragon Squad” and 300 credits
- Assault: The assault rifle FN SCAR-H and the gold version, as well as the skin “Assault of the Paragon Squad” and 300 credits are included
- Medic: You receive the Fabarm S.A.T. 8 Pro and the gold version in the package, the skin “Medic of the Paragon Squad” and 300 credits
For 74.99 you get a comprehensive package that offers the following:

- Assault rifle FN SCAR-H and the gold version
- Shotgun Fabarm S.A.T. 8 Pro with gold version
- Magpul FMG-9 including gold version
- Sniper rifle Remington R11 RSASS and the gold version
- Handgun CZ-75 with the gold version
- Combat knife Hunting Commando
- Skin set Paragon Squad for all classes
- 1500 credits

Paying for Free2Play games
Paid Free2Play: Anyone who wants to participate in the Early Access phase must pay for it. This practice is becoming increasingly common among Free2Play titles:
- Dauntless was paid during the alpha, at release it is a Free2Play game
- H1Z1 – This shooter also had a paid Early Access version, but the title was planned as a Free2Play game at release
This is how players react: The practice of charging for Free2Play games during an Early Access phase or alpha is controversial and thus some people find it unpalatable. Criticism can also be found on Twitter:
- MattySW writes: “Wait, it’s not free on Xbox? That’s crap!”
- Supreme itzGEO sarcastically says: “Something is wrong here. It’s supposed to be free.”
Others, however, are excited that the Early Access phase has started and celebrate it with Gifs, as can also be seen on Twitter.
You can start playing right now by purchasing one of the founder’s packages through the Microsoft Store.
