The Warcraft movie Warcraft: The Beginning is forecasted to not be very successful in the USA, but it has performed well in the rest of the world. Even better, it seems, is the reception among the Chinese audience, as the pre-sales already showed gigantic returns.
Warcraft: The Beginning had a budget of 160 million US dollars, and if there are to be sequels, that amount needs to be surpassed first. Given the rather low numbers of the US forecasts – only about 25 million dollars are expected for the opening – the outlook for more orcs on screen is not great.

However, it seems that only the Americans are uninterested; the film is faring much better in the rest of the world. But the big boom is yet to come, as interest in the film is extremely high in China. Over 20 million dollars were already earned in pre-sales, almost as much as the entire US forecast!
Festival and Exam End – “Like five Saturdays in a row!”
Overall, a total revenue of up to 150 million US dollars is expected in the first 5 days after release. This high figure is partly due to the film starting next Wednesday, which coincides with the end of exam periods in Chinese schools. On Thursday, the traditional “Dragon Boat Festival” begins.
This is – according to a source to the US magazine Deadline – like “five Saturdays in a row.” So there is enough time for the target audience to watch the film at their leisure. With the earnings from the China release, the future of other Warcraft films should be secured. But no matter how it turns out, the um 40 minutes longer special edition of Warcraft: The Beginning should definitely happen.
