Warcraft Rumble will be released in just a few weeks and will be available for download. MeinMMO takes a look at Blizzard’s mobile game and reveals what the game is worth.
For a long time, “Warcraft Mobile” was in the making. Initially called “Warcraft Arclight Rumble,” the game was recently renamed to “Warcraft Rumble.” The official release is just a few weeks away. We take a look at the mobile game and reveal for whom it is suitable – and who should probably stay away.
When will Warcraft Rumble be released in Germany? The official release of Warcraft Rumble is on November 3, 2023, just in time for BlizzCon 2023. From then on you can download the game from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store (Android).
What is the gameplay of Warcraft Rumble about? You are the troop commander and must strategically place your miniatures (“Minis”) on the battlefield. They then march towards the enemy. The goal is to defeat the boss of the current map. Along the way, you will defeat enemies, capture towers, mine gold, or open treasure chests to gather more resources and either place more Minis or allow them to spawn closer to the goal.
Minis have special strengths, such as flying units being effective against foot soldiers, while siege units quickly take down towers. This “rock, paper, scissors” principle is further expanded by the fact that Minis can be leveled up and their rarity improved. As a result, they become not only stronger and have more hit points but can also learn talents – including typical Warcraft abilities, such as shadow mimicry of the night elves.
As you follow a campaign and strategically use your Minis in battle, you also try to expand your collection and continually improve the quality of the Minis. This follows the typical “Gacha” principle used by many free-to-play games.
How long does a match last? Individual matches in Warcraft Rumble are very short. Depending on the level, you will need 3-5 minutes for a map. Of course, you can play multiple matches in a row, but Warcraft Rumble, like many other mobile games, is excellent for short matches on the go – for instance, on the bus or tram.
The short duration ensures that you can almost always fit in one match or another.
Is Warcraft Rumble a PvE game? The focus of Warcraft Rumble seems clearly to lie on the PvE aspect. There is a long campaign at normal and heroic difficulty. This campaign takes place entirely in single-player mode, and other players have no influence on your progress.
Is there PvP? Yes, there is. As of now, however, the mode is still not very developed, as the different Minis for PvP are not balanced or only insufficiently balanced. Many testers currently see the PvP mode as a nice addition – but anyone looking for a balanced PvP experience will likely be disappointed with Warcraft Rumble.
Is Warcraft Rumble Pay2Win? No, at least not in the PvE mode. Although spending money can speed up progress (“Pay2Progress”), you can also achieve this progress by investing time (e.g., repeatable tasks).
An example is a unlock that cost around €20 during the beta. This increases the gold amount you receive from various tasks by 50%. Thus, you can ultimately improve your Minis 50% faster than other players.
In PvP, however, Pay2Win seems to be a real threat. With real money, you can buy a wider variety of Minis earlier, which ultimately means more options in PvP. How often “paying players” face off against “free-to-play” players likely depends heavily on matchmaking. As already mentioned, however, the focus of the game is not on PvP.
Note that this information is based on the current state of the game’s beta. Some aspects may change by launch.
Can you play Warcraft Rumble on PC? No. As of now, it is purely a mobile game. You must play it on a smartphone or tablet. A PC or console version is not planned at this stage.
You might be able to bypass this restriction with various emulators, as has been done with other mobile games – but the use of them is at your own risk.
Who is Warcraft Rumble suitable for? In general, Warcraft Rumble is interesting for anyone who wants to experience a (unexpectedly complex) Warcraft experience on mobile.
However, one should be clear that Warcraft Rumble in its current state is not a game you can invest several hours every day for weeks. It is a game that you play 2-3 times a day for a few minutes when you want to kill some time.
PvP is only worthwhile if you have a high frustration tolerance or are willing to invest a lot of time and money into the game. But you will find balanced PvP experiences much more reliably in other games.
