The Creatures Become Credible
The Warcraft movie has been in production for many years and is finally approaching its release. Ben Foster, the actor who plays Medivh, now discusses the technology used and his belief that the film will set new standards in many aspects. He particularly praises the director Duncan Jones.
“Duncan Jones loves the game, has been playing it for a long time, and has been surrounded by people who seem to have spent several years in this world. That’s a bit creepy, because I knew nothing about the game. But I spoke to people about how much time they put into it. The film was made by people who have a very intimate relationship with the source material.“
Last year at BlizzCon, Jones tried to reassure the large crowd by emphasizing that he was “one of the players” and that he would never forgive himself if he messed this up.
“Especially interesting”, Foster says, “is how different beings are humanized. The technology can now accurately capture eye movements – there is hardly any interpretation, it is all very precise. If the eyes are the mirrors to the soul, you literally experience how the acting comes to life.“ He speaks about the Orcs and other creatures, all portrayed by real actors and later enhanced with CGI animations.
The film will be released in the summer of next year, but fans can look forward to the official trailer, which will be revealed exclusively at BlizzCon in just two weeks.
