The re-release of Blizzard’s strategy classic Warcraft III: Reforged is now live. But is it worth buying? Who is this game recommend for?
After a long wait with unplanned delays, it finally happened last night. Warcraft III: Reforged officially launched on January 29, 2020.
After a comprehensive beta test, the campaign can now finally be played and the story missions of the Third War can be experienced again. But for whom is the game actually worth it? And who should stay away from Warcraft III: Reforged?
What exactly is Warcraft III: Reforged? Essentially, Warcraft III: Reforged is a significantly polished graphical version of the strategy classic Warcraft III, which still is considered a genre king alongside StarCraft. You choose one of four races (Humans, Orcs, Night Elves, or Undead), build a base, fight for resources, and command troops into battle. The special thing is the hero characters with their own abilities and an exciting story that unfolds in the extensive campaign.
Reforged includes all content from the original “Reign of Chaos” and the expansion “The Frozen Throne”.
How much does Warcraft III: Reforged cost? The price of Warcraft III: Reforged is €30 when you buy the normal version. If you prefer something a bit fancier with a few special skins and bonuses in other Blizzard games, you can opt for the €40 version named “Spoils of War”. We have listed all bonuses from the “Spoils of War” version here.
You should get Warcraft III: Reforged if… you like the basic story of Warcraft and haven’t had the chance to play the Warcraft III campaign yet. Then Reforged is practically a must-buy.
In modern, appealing graphics, the story revolves around Arthas, the Scourge, and the Burning Legion. Fans of World of Warcraft will experience the beginnings of great characters like Sylvanas, Thrall, Jaina Proudmoore, and Arthas, while also getting to know Uther, Kel’thuzad, or Kael’thas.
Additionally, Warcraft III is also a really good strategy game in multiplayer – either in “real” matches or in the numerous fun maps that formed the origin of the entire MOBA genre. If you haven’t experienced that yet and want to catch up with some friends in modern graphics, you should seize the opportunity.
You should avoid Warcraft III: Reforged if… you can’t get used to the new graphics and still nostalgically miss the old graphics. Then you can comfortably do without Warcraft III: Reforged. Although the graphics can be switched to the old models, you honestly don’t need the game in that case.
If you expect major innovations, you will also be disappointed. At its core, Warcraft III: Reforged is still the game from nearly 18 years ago. The mechanics, the gameplay, and the overall gameplay have not changed at all, aside from minimal balance patches.
Will you get Warcraft III: Reforged? Or will you stay away from this game?
