The great blemish of Blizzard has been cleared up. Warcraft III: Reforged is finally the game that most have wished for.
When Warcraft III: Reforged was released a few years ago, the outcry in the gaming community was enormous. The legendary strategy game, which many still consider one of the best RTS in the world, was worsened by the update and numerous promises were not kept. Now, for the 30th anniversary of Warcraft, the community has been given a gift and Warcraft III has finally received the update it has long deserved.
During the live stream of Warcraft Direct, what had already been suspected after a leak a few days ago was announced. The strategy game “Warcraft III: Reforged” received its major update to version 2.0 just last night, bringing many updates that fans have been wanting for years.
What’s new in version 2.0? The changes are numerous. However, the most noticeable feature is that there is now a third graphics option. Aside from the “classic” graphics and the (controversial) Reforged graphics, there is now a third option, namely a higher resolution Classic graphics. All textures for units, buildings, and graphic effects have been upgraded. Thus, the units look significantly better while retaining their classic Warcraft look.
If desired, players can also combine and customize these graphics types using “Mix & Match” to create their own unique look.
Other major innovations can be found primarily in the menu navigation, in-game lighting, or the ranked game mode. There is now a leveling system (which resets every season) and numerous small interface improvements – such as a display showing how many units are currently working in a gold mine.
The update is well received by the active community of the game, which plays Warcraft III primarily for its competitive elements.
Warcraft I and Warcraft II in new graphics – released directly
But for RTS fans, the update of Reforged was not the only news, as the modernized return of two more games was also announced. At the same time, Blizzard has re-released the classics “Warcraft: Orcs & Humans” and “Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness” as “Warcraft I: Remastered” and “Warcraft II: Remastered”.
The two games are true classics but had become rather outdated over time. Blizzard has now given them a complete overhaul, much like what occurred with StarCraft: Remastered: new graphics with significantly improved resolution, an improved interface, and new comfort features – such as the ability to group and control multiple units more easily than before.
Anyone who wants to experience the beginnings of the Warcraft story and replay the first missions of the invading Orc horde on Azeroth can now purchase both games in the Battle.net shop for €9.99 and €14.99 – or as part of the “Battle Chest” edition, which also includes Warcraft III: Reforged, for €40.
This is certainly not a substitute for a completely new Warcraft strategy game, but fans of the earlier installments will at least get a full dose of nostalgia – and younger generations finally have a way to experience the beginnings of the beloved game world.
World of Warcraft fans can also look forward to a highlight, as they will finally get housing.
