The beta of Warcraft III: Reforged starts this week. Those who want to participate can now qualify for the beta and, with a bit of luck, soon engage in their first matches.
It’s been almost a year since the announcement of “Warcraft III: Reforged”, the remake of Warcraft III along with the expansion Frozen Throne. The re-release of the strategy classic is set to be launched later this year, so it’s about time for a beta. This starts this week and we will tell you how you can participate.
How can you participate? To have a chance at an invitation to the beta, you must have pre-ordered Warcraft III: Reforged or the more expensive “Spoils of War” version, which comes with additional goodies. Blizzard states that they will invite players in waves who have purchased the “Spoils of War” version and then in later waves additional players, such as those who secured the regular version.
However, there seems to be no guarantee for a beta invitation.
What is playable in the beta? Currently, only a few features are available in the multiplayer beta. At the beginning, it is quite limited, so there is access to:
- The matchmaking in 1vs1 and 2vs2
- The races Humans and Orcs
More races (Night Elves and Undead) as well as additional game modes are expected to be unlocked in the coming weeks.
What content is missing in the beta? The complete campaign is not available during the beta, just as numerous “fun maps” and other game modes (3vs3, etc.) are. At the beginning, Blizzard only wants to test the 1vs1 and 2vs2 matches and focus on Humans and Orcs.
Is the purchase worth it? Anyone who has never played Warcraft III and wants to experience the campaign in nice graphics will likely not regret the €30. The more expensive “Spoils of War” version for €40 comes with numerous extras spread across all Blizzard games. These include:
- Special skins for Thrall, Cenarius, Arthas, and Jaina in Warcraft III: Reforged
- Profile pictures and animated spray logos in Overwatch
- Meat wagon mount in World of Warcraft (Retail only)
- Thrall, Anub’arak, Jaina, and Tyrande in Heroes of the Storm
- “The Third War” card back in Hearthstone
- Mal’Ganis pet in Diablo III
- 4 interface skins for StarCraft II
So anyone who enjoys extra goodies should also consider the additional €10.
