The movie “Warcraft: The Beginning” will deviate from the lore in some points. Additionally, there’s a look into the inn of Goldshire!
Minor deviations from the lore enhance the movie
At PAX East, Duncan Jones, the director of the film, dropped some hints about the upcoming Warcraft movie. He confirmed that the film would deviate from the lore of the games and books. However, these changes are supposed to be “small and subtle” and to enrich the film.
Although Jones does not mention where the film’s story will diverge from the game and novel, fans (and demons) have already identified a few deviations:
- Unlike in the original game, many Orcs coming through the Dark Portal are not visibly corrupted by Fel magic yet, and are thus brown instead of green.
- The city of mages, Dalaran, is already flying in the air in the film, even though it should still be firmly anchored to the ground at this time in the original.
- Lastly, the actress playing Garona has repeatedly stated that she portrays a hybrid of Orc and Human – but in the game’s lore, she is a hybrid of Orc and Draenei.
One can only hope that these reinterpretations of the lore do not lead to logical errors within the film – because at least the aspect with Garona would then be extremely questionable. Wait and drink herbal tea.
Moreover, Legendary has released a small “behind the scenes” video about the “Lion’s Pride Inn” or better known to us as “The Lion’s Den”. The inn of Goldshire closely resembles the original from the film and features many small Easter eggs, such as a poster encouraging the hunt for goblins – you should definitely check it out yourself.
In a month, on May 26th, the Warcraft movie will hit theaters in Germany. Only two weeks later, Americans will be able to enjoy the film. So someone say again that everything comes so late for us.
