How to get even more out of War Thunder is demonstrated by a fan who has built an entire virtual reality cockpit!
A Cloud Flight in the Living Room
With the beginning of the era of virtual reality (or at least VR headsets), it is becoming increasingly easier for fans to fully immerse themselves in their game world, thereby reaching a whole new level of immersion.
Traditionally, flight simulations are among the most elaborate and extensive games. They often come with good graphics as well. However, Youtuber mdbuehler found a simple Oculus Rift on his head wasn’t enough; he wanted to truly feel the cockpit around him. So he got himself a decommissioned ejection seat, a joystick, and plenty of other technical devices to realistically recreate the interior of an aircraft. He shows how this works in practice in this 12-minute video:
But not everything is perfect: especially the delay between head movement and the image following quickly causes motion sickness and the sometimes inadequate AI of computer-controlled teammates and opponents often brings the player back down to reality.
What do you think: a damn cool thing or maybe a bit too exaggerated for home use?
Publisher Tencent distributes War Thunder in China. They came up with something quite similar for a marketing campaign:
